Lewie Lee Thomas went to be with the Lord at sunrise on the morning of September 7, 2018 in Snyder, Texas. Gene, his sweetheart of over 76 years, was by his side in their home of over 64 years. He was 98 years old. Service for Mr. Thomas will be held on Sunday, September 09, 2018 , at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church Chapel with Reverend Ben Reid officiating. Internment will follow at Hillside Memorial Gardens. Services are under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.Lewie was born on April 22, 1920 in an oilfield "tent city" near Eastland, Texas to Squire Griffin Thomas and Della Gertrude Owens. He moved to Lueders in High School, where he played football and performed in theater. He met and married Imogene Penix on December 20, 1941 in Anson, Texas. They raised their three boys, Leslie, John, and Glenn in the same home. The last few months had been hard for him, but he had lived through the Great Depression and WWII and you didn't waste anything. He knew how to squeeze out every last drop of energy of body and spirit. And that is just what he did. Mr. Thomas served in the U.S. Army in WWII in the Philippines and Korea. He was awarded 2 bronze stars. Mr. Thomas was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church. He also sang in the choir and played and sang the music box. He served Meals On Wheels to help others.
