MATIAS VASQUEZ, JR.
FEBRUARY 15, 1935 – DECEMBER 14, 2018
Matias (Cinco) Vasquez Jr., age 83, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 14, 2018, in San Antonio, Texas. He was born February 15, 1935, in Laredo, Texas to Matias Vasquez Sr. and Soledad Vasquez. He moved to San Antonio and retired from HB Zachry after 45 years.
After retirement he pursued some of his many hobbies including cooking, carpentry, loved playing his guitar, watching the San Antonio Spurs, Dallas Cowboys and spending time at the family ranch, which was named after one his famous one line sayings. He has provided countless of lifelong memories and his one line sayings and jokes will continue on through his family and be cherished forever. One of our favorite family traditions is that for Thanksgiving Day he would recite the "The Pilgrims Came Across The Sea" poem. He will forever be remembered as a loving family man and will be missed dearly. Thanks for the memories Dad.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Natividad (Vera) Vasquez and sisters: Amelia Vasquez and Lucia (Francisco) Montiel.
He is survived by his wife Maria Socorro Vasquez of 63 years; sons: Natividad (Connie) Vasquez, Peter Vasquez and John Vasquez; daughters: Vilma Castilleja, Norma (Florencio) Moreno and Monica Fenwick; 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; brothers: Alonzo (Velia) Vasquez and H. Vasquez, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 17, 2018 from 7 a.m. until 9 a.m. at Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels, 719 N. Loring Ave. A Rosary will be recited at 8 a.m.
Funeral procession will depart at 9 a.m. to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m.
Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
