Maurice L. Mears, Sr., 88, passed away at his home Monday, February 17, 2014, while surrounded by his loved ones.Maurice was born in Jacksonville, FL and raised in Ridgeland, SC. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Mears and son, Robert E. (Bob) Mears, Sr.He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Loretta P. Mears, his children, Maurice L. (Linda) Mears, Jr., Barbara A. Cox, Mary Beth (Joe) Hyder, Brian E. (Cindy) Mears Sr., Brenda E. (Mark) Brown, James D. Bartholomew and daughter-in-law Kiyoko T. (Bob) Mears.He was also a loving grandfather to 16 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. He enjoyed spending his time with his family & friends. As an avid sportsman and lifetime member of the R&A Sportsman's Club, he also enjoyed hunting and fishing. After a long career in the automotive industry, he established Mears of Macon Body & Paint Shop in 1979. After more than 20 years as a distinguished & well known business man, he retired in 2000.Per Maurice's wishes, there will be no formal services in commemoration of his passing.In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be made in his memory to: Hospice Care Options, 486 New St., Macon, GA 31201, (478) 743-3033.Hart's Mortuary and Crematory, Cherry Street, has charge of arrangements.
