Mavon was a friendly guy. I worked with him in the mid 80s. He would always come down to talk when we would float by his place on the river. He would always offer food or drink when I stopped by. He will be sadly missed.

Mavon Louis Lam Sr., 85 of Shenandoah, passed away February 18, 2014 at Sentara RMH Medical Center in Harrisonburg. `Mr. Lam was born January 17, 1929 in Elkton, and was the son of the late W.O. and Laura May Lam. He served our country in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II and was a member of the Avis O. Comer V.F.W. Post 8613 in Shenandoah, and the Shenandoah Moose Lodge. He lived along the Shenandoah River, and loved spending time outdoors with family and friends. He was a member of the Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in Luray, and worked for I.B.E.W. Local #672, before retiring. On April 6, 1950 he married, Joyce Loker Lam; who survives. Also surviving is a son, Mavon Lam Jr. & girlfriend, Casey Morris, Goldsboro, N.C.; daughters, Jena Bradley & husband, Jim, Englewood, Fla., Sheila Fielding & husband, Barry, Port Republic, Marcy Shifflett, & husband, Pete, Harrisonburg; a brother, Weldon Lam & wife, Sidney, Shenandoah; sisters, Charlotte Stover & husband, Joe, Shenandoah, Arbutus Raines, Stanardsville; 9 grandchildren, Matthew & Melinda Fielding, Phillip and Derek Robertson, Lauren Friend, Manda ,Forrest and Noah Lam, Cory Shifflett; 6 great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, William Lam, Ivan Lam, Cecil John Lam, Agnes Sipe, Evelyn Kennedy; and granddaughter, Michelle Gordon. A funeral mass will be held 10:00 am Monday, February 24, 2014 at the Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in Luray, with Father Christopher Lemme officiating. A graveside service will be held at 1:00pm Monday the Eastlawn Memorial Gardens near Harrisonburg. The family will receive friends Sunday 6 to 8pm at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. Memorial gifts may be made to the American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, Virginia 23060.
