Some of my most cherished memories of growing up are those of our family camping near Alpena with Elmer and his wife during the two weeks of Air National Guard camp each summer. He was a true gentleman and I think the kindest man I have ever known. My dad, a longtime friend, died just one day before Elmer. They were both great examples of "The Greatest Generation".
