Geraldine M. Brinkert Springfield It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister on Sunday morning, December 26, 2010. Geraldine May "Gerry" Brinkert, 69, of Springfield, MI, passed away peacefully at the Battle Creek Health System in Battle Creek on December 26, 2010. She was born April 25, 1941 in Homer, MI the daughter of Albert C. Boden and Laverna H. (Craven) Boden. She had been employed as a secretary for State Farm Insurance (Fire Company) in Marshall, MI; then Century Housewares; then for three years for Top-Kut Meats; Buckenberger Insurance Company for twelve and half years; then a clerk at Budget Self Storage and a cashier/stocker Whitt's Party Store. She married James L. Brinkert in Battle Creek, MI on July 8, 1978; however he passed away in May of 2008. She is survived by her daughter: Karen M. (Rob) Howes of Battle Creek, MI; two sons: Brian E. (Kathy) Eib of Ft. Wayne, IN, and Larry L. (Missy) Eib of Springfield, MI; two step-daughters: Mary L. (Todd) Boshers of Battle Creek, and Karen L. (Mike) Kragt of Portage, MI; step-son: Mark W. Brinkert of Fort Wayne, IN; her brother: George Boden of Bellevue, MI; one sister: Donna M. (Ernie) Morgan of Battle Creek; one brother-in-law: Lyle Varney of Nashville, MI; her mother-in-law: Emily Brinkert of Battle Creek; eight grandchildren: Susan, Michael and Michelle Eib of Battle Creek, Brandon Eib of Ft. Wayne, IN, Justin and Jennifer McKeown, and Tara and Stephanie Howes all of Battle Creek; four step-grandchildren: Bethany (Tommy) Sumners of Clarksville, TN, Phillip and Danielle Brinkert of Ft. Wayne, IN, and Angelica Boshers of Battle Creek; and one great grandson: Darrel Sumners of Clarksville, TN. She was preceded in death by her father: Albert Boden (October 1966), her mother: Laverna H. VanScyoc in February 2009; one sister: Norma Jean Varney (2009); her husband: Richard Eib in 1976; her husband: James Brinkert May 28, 2008; her son: Garry L. Eib (February 2001); her father-in-law: Carlyle Phillip Brinkert (April 2002); her step-father: L. R. VanScyoc (1982); and her sister-in-law: Marilyn Boden (2008). Gerry graduated from Marshall High School in 1959.Gerry had been a resident of Springfield since 1963. Gerry served as treasurer of the newly formed Springfield Community Foundation. She was a member of the 100 Million Dollar Club with the Battle Creek Shriners; she was a member of the Bunco Club for many years and an auxiliary member of the Battle Creek Commandery #33 where she was elected President in 2005. In her free time she enjoyed her indoor plants and gardening during the summer, spending time with her grandchildren, collecting paper napkins, small state commemorative spoons and plates, currency coins and a souvenir from each of the hot air balloon festivals through the years. She loved taking family photos and pictures of different events. She loved garage saleing and "Zoey", her miniature-pincher. Visitation will be held Wednesday after 9 a.m., December 29, 2010 at the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service where the family will be present from 1-4:00 p.m. and 6-8:00 p.m. Funeral services commemorating the life of Geraldine Brinkert will be held Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in the Bachman Funeral Chapel with Pastor Mona Joslyn of Gull Lake United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial tributes may be made to American Leukemia Society or the Humane Society of South Central Michigan.
