D. Price Obituary

Rev. D. Burdette Price Rev. D. Burdette Price slipped peacefully into the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, November 1, 2010. Rev. Price is the son of the late Don F. Price, founder of one of America's longest running daily radio broadcasts, The Family Altar of the Air. Rev. Burdette Price served as the pastor and founder of The Family Altar Chapel in Battle Creek, Michigan, and the Family Altar Bible Church in Marshall, Michigan. He, along with his wife, Theresa, founded the church in 1967, and it quickly became one of the region's fastest growing churches. Rev. Price's dynamic and often dramatic pulpit ministry attracted the attention of young people searching for answers in the late '60s and early '70s. Rev. Price was the youngest of four children who grew up together in a ministerial home. Their father, a minister and itinerant evangelist, encouraged his children to pursue their gifts and calling in church work, but young Burdette was a rebellious teen and young adult who resisted a call on his life for full-time ministry service. He left home, served the Army in the 82nd Airborne Division, and walked away from his faith. He ran from God until one night when, at 23 years of age, he wandered into a Billy Graham crusade. When the altar call was given, Burdette committed his heart to Christ and was gloriously saved. From that moment on, his singular passion and life's work was to lead men and women to Christ. In addition to his prolific pulpit ministry, Rev. Price was a playwright, musician, and author. Having written numerous dramatic presentations and original music productions, his ministry among young people soared with the formation of an energetic and fast-paced musical ensemble called The Teen Tones. That drama and choral group presented weekly theatrical and comical presentations of biblical answers to real-life issues and was considered one of America's preeminent evangelical performance ensembles. His popular syndicated newspaper column, "Youth Searching," was published in newspapers throughout the Midwest each week and gained prominence as a resource to young people in the increasingly cynical era of the '60s and '70s. Carrying on the work founded by his father, Rev. Price took over as director and radio pastor of the Family Altar of the Air radio broadcast in 1982. This daily radio program is still aired throughout North America today as it has been each day since its inception in 1943. Rev. Price's gentle message of hope and daily devotions has brought encouragement to millions around the world. In addition to Price's radio ministry, he frequently hosted Christian Television Network's flagship program. Always having a benevolent heart, Rev. Price founded Family Ministries in Clearwater, Florida. Offering food, clothing, and aid to those who are downtrodden, Family Ministries has helped hundreds of Bay Area families with temporary assistance, food, and educational scholarships. Most recently, Rev. Price enjoyed the simple rewards of serving in a pastoral support role at Largo's Westside Church of the Nazarene. An ordained minister in the denomination for nearly 20 years, he formed lasting relationships among its members and helped lead his local congregation to a vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ. Rev. Price is survived by his wife, Theresa, whom he married in 1958; three loving children, Donald, Teri, and Tammi; four grandchildren, Hannah, Lilly, Krystan, and Ashly; and two beloved dogs. Although his life was punctuated by numerous professional and personal accomplishments, he is best described as a pastor, a man who authentically loved people and cared about their needs. His often quoted motto is a perfect metaphor for his optimistic life: "Walk with God and expect a miracle!" You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Oh, how much Burdette and Theresa were an inspiration to me in my teen years, I remember the ground breaking day if the family alter chapel. I also remember seeing the Steeple put on top of the church. "The Church with the White Steeple and the friendly people" So many wonderful memories.
Please hold tight to those memories....Burdette was truly a wonderful and caring and passionate man.

In my teen years both of you were so much like a Mom and Dad to me....
Love to all of you and may God wrap his arms around you and hold you close always.

Burdette was the one person who truly told the story of salvation. He was the main focus for all of us young people in the late 60's and 70's. Such impressionable years with so many freedoms of our generation. We really appreciated Teen Tones, his openess and kindness to all of us. Burdette will truly be missed by all who remember our past so fondly. God Bless you.

Teresa and Family,
our hearts are saddened by Burdette's passing yet filled with joyous memories of our time spent together at FCNB. The singles adored the two of you. Heather is twenty three now and when I told her she said how much she loved "Bunny and Tessa" she chose those names for you. You brought the sweetest love and spirit to all of us and we will never forget. Barbara, Kim, Heather Grant. Christ peace be with you my friend.

We were saddened to hear of Burdette's passing, although certainly not sad for him! As a young person, his influence was strong in my life. I also went my own way after high school and walked away from my faith and finally got to a place where I was so unhappy and turned to Burdette for help. He led me back to God and in less than two years later, he married Don and I and that was 39 years ago next month!

I will always be indebted to him for taking the time to talk to Don one night as he gave his life to the Lord later that night. Over the years we enjoyed running in to him from time to time. We winter in Largo and love love it there and had no idea as we have searched for a church that our old pastor was right there! Wish we had known before! May our Father bring comfort and peace to your family at this time--you are in our prayers.

Dear Price family
what a legacy Burdette and the Price family have demonstrated wherever you have lived. Pastor Burdette brought a Grace and Eloquence to ministry along with a soft smile, and a passion to make sure everyone was invited to accept Jesus as their savior. We can't replace this kind of man only thank God for his life and ministry. My wife speaks so highly of Burdette mentoring her as a new child of the faith and now she is a great pastors wife to our church in Nor Cal. We Love you all and pray for your time of loneliness, but we hold on to the promise of 1 Cor. 2:9 Love Timothy and Michelle (Shelly) Mills

Teresa,Donnie.Teri and Tamie;
I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. Burdette was a wonderful man,he was actually the only person with me when I accepted Christ at age 9 in a hospital chapel. He sounded so good on the phone a couple months ago. I have missed you all so much over the years.
Please rest assured he is with God, and he loves you still from Heaven...
