Darlene Nulf Obituary

Darlene Marie Nulf Darlene Marie Nulf, age 66, of Hobe Sound, FL and Hendersonville, NC, passed away peacefully at her home in Hobe Sound November 11, 2010. She was born March 16, 1944, in Ferndale, MI, to Raymond and Gladys Dawson. As the fifth of six children, Darlene developed a tremendous strength of character early on in life. After graduating high school, Darlene married Clark Nulf, and dedicated her energies to creating a warm and loving home in which to raise two children, and host extended family and friends. As part of this passion for her family and friends, she loved to cook, sew, and design seasonal crafts. Always on the move, she and Clark developed a particular knack for remodeling new spaces, creating an inviting feeling of home wherever they settled. Her competitive spirit made Darlene an avid golfer, and bridge player, and her life-long intellectual curiosity found outlets in reading and in travel. Darlene also cultivated lasting friendships wherever life carried her, and she will be deeply missed by many. Darlene defied the odds against a particularly virulent strain of cancer for seven years, opting to participate in a research program through Duke University. All who knew her have been inspired by the tenacity, courage, and positive spirit she displayed in her fight. She is survived by her husband, Clark Leonard Nulf of Hendersonville, NC and Hobe Sound, FL, her son David and his wife Mimi of Fairfield,CT, her son Daniel and his wife Colleen, of Stuart, FL ,and four grandchildren, Phoebe, Lila, Emily, and Wesley Nulf. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service at, Covenant Fellowship Baptist Church 2880 SE Aster Lane Stuart, FL 33455 on Wednesday November 17 at 10:00a.m. Gifts in her memory may be made to Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke University, DUMC Box 3624, Durham, NC 27710, or Treasure Coast Hospice, 9065 SE Bridge Rd, Hobe Sound, FL 33455.

It takes a long time to get used to the loss of someone we love. But it is important to remember that when people die, they leave something very special behind . . .and she sure did! Dar left us memories of things she said and did, as long has we have those memories she will live on in our hearts and minds.
