He truly loved his work and enjoyed his many customers and their families. These friendships followed him into his retirement years and blessed him with many happy moments. Don was married to the love of his life, Margaret M. Erhardt, on February 22, 1947. They were loving parents to their three daughters and created a wonderful life for them. Also surviving are grandchildren: Travis Hanson, Mary O'Keefe, James (Amanda) O'Keefe, Breah Cole, Brian Cole; one great-grandson, Trevor Hanson; another great-grandson expected soon; and a sister, Eileen McNeal. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Linda Butler; and three brothers, Robert, Richard and William Butler. Don's greatest passion in life was his family, with whom he enjoyed spending time and always loved unconditionally. His many friends and acquaintances are a testament to his love of people. His numerous hobbies included stained glass, gardening, woodworking and a continual quest for knowledge of nature and all things in life. His zest for life and his warm, loving personality serve as an inspiration for all who were fortunate to have known him. Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 8, 2010, at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home. Military honors and memorial services will be held at Ft. Dear Marge and Family

Please accept my deepest condolences on your loss. I just learned of Don's passing as I was looking through the Enquirer on line. Don was an absolutely great human being. I so much appreciated the opportunity Don gave me in the early 1970s by allowing me to work at Redwood & Ross part time while attending KCC. I enjoyed working for Don and will never forget him.

Uncle Don was one of my favorites. I remember one time we stopped to see them right before my daughter's second birthday. Uncle Don thought we should have her practice blowing out candles so he lit them, we sang Happy Birthday, and she blew them out after several tries. Then he thought we should do it again. So we did. We probably did this 10 more times singing the complete "Happy Birthday" song first then had her blow out the candles. Then later on, Deb, Pat, and James came over, so we had to do it all over for them several times. I think we went through an entire book of matches.

Don was such a part of our local community that the neighborhood will never be the same without him. For over 26 years he was our friend and neighbor. He was always there with a smile and a kind word, and he was like a grandpa to our daughter Sarah. We will surely miss him.

Just days before the Felpausch store moved I had the pleasure of a long conversation with Don. We reminisced about many things from days gone by.I first met Don At Two Legs and learned early on that you were a friend forever.
He was a true merchant who truly cared for his customers. Something you seldom see today. I later owned a retail business and know that Don showed me how to treat the customer.
I will miss our many converstions over the years. His caring ways can be a lesson to all of us. Thank you Don!
Blessing to your Family.

Dear Marge and family,
Judy and I send our deepest sympathies to you. We felt blessed to have you as neighbors during our eight years in Battle Creek. We will always be appreciative of the fact that, no matter how busy Don was or what he was doing, he would always have time to talk to our son Chris as he was growing up. He truly was interested in everyone he met. We will keep you in our prayers.

Uncle Don will always be very special to me.
