Julie Steele Obituary

Julie M. Steele Julie M. Steele, age 58, died peacefully in her sleep Wednesday, November 10, 2010 in Marshall, where she lived for the past 22 years. Julie was born September 2, 1952 in Harvey, Illinois and grew up in Port Huron, MI until she moved to Bellevue, MI in 1969. She was a graduate of Bellevue High School, class of 1970. She was the daughter of Jack and Irene (Cioni) Watson. Julie graduated from Kellogg Community College with a degree in Child Development; she was employed by Head Start for 19 years, in Battle Creek, Albion and Marshall. Julie touched so many young children's lives, she was a talented teacher, who was remembered for being kind to everyone. She was always an ambassador for the first step movement program. She taught workshops for Kellogg Community College, to develop balance, coordination and brain development through movement. She always made sessions fun, and used everyday objects to show students and teachers how to encourage brain development through movement. She was a talented decorator and helped many people with seasonal decorations and weddings. Her classrooms were always a delight to the eyes of children and teachers and many asked her to help them decorate as well. She enjoyed antiques, making crafts, cooking, gardening, and teaching. She played drums all through high school. She was in the Drum and Bugle Corp in Sarnia, Canada. Julie loved her sons so much and was so proud of them. She is survived by sons, Jeremiah Steele (Liz Smith) of Hendersonville, NC and Andrew Steele (Ivsar Afanadon) of Ventura, CA; mother, Irene Watson of Battle Creek; sister, Toni Watson of Grand Rapids; very special friend, Larry Liggett of Marshall; special cousins, Milton (Chip) Whitmore, Sharon Grossenbacker, Debby Abbott and Diana Vanhoose; special aunt, Tillie Porter. Julie is preceded in death by her father, Jack Watson; maternal grandparents, Guilio and Gaetana Cioni; paternal grandparents, Connor and Elsie Watson. Julie had donated most of her life to raising her sons. She had prayed that someday God would grant, her love and she found that love only 3 months ago, when Larry and Julie both prayed for love, God granted them both their wish that day, as they were led to Family Fare grocery store, where they met, only a few minutes after they prayed. Her family and friends said, she had a smile on her face and she was totally happy. Larry feels blessed to have had her love for such a short period of time. Larry says, we will be together again someday. The family will receive friend on Thursday at the Craig K. Julie Steele will always be remembered by the people that she touched, as a kind, caring, loving and considerate person. I also had the honor of working with Julie for many years. I am sure Julie helped many children and their families during her 19 years with headstart. She will be dearly missed by all. My prayers are with Julie's family and frends at this time.

Julie was such a warm and wonderful person. She was always so giving and did not expect anything back in return. I remember when I left Head Start to begin my new career, she gave me a beautiful potted plant and a small book with good luck sentiments inside that I keep in my office. When children see it and ask me about it, I love to tell the origins of it and tell of the very nice woman that gave it to me and why. Julie told me whenever I felt down, to read the words inside. She will be truly missed. God Bless her and her Family

Julie was a kind person. I remember Julie bringing in flowers and special things to the Head Start office "just because". She was my friend.

Drear Mrs. Watson, Toni, Jeremiah, Andrew, extended family and special friends,
I was so sorry to hear the news about Julie. So many of my life moments are filled with memories of Julie, her gentle spirit and that smile. These moments span from kindergarden to our days 'on the road' in the 70's. No matter which moment I may recall her smile and gentle spirit are there, timeless and ageless. My most recent treasured time was a sunny afternoon we spent in the summer of 2009 as she proudly shared pictures and stories of her sons. I know that Julie's gentle spirit and smile will live on in the hearts of anyone who knew and experienced her. Julie was a free spirited, unique person whose friendship and memories I will treasure always. My prayer is that her soul will know God's peace and for that same peace to be with you all as you face the days ahead. In God's love, Beverly Little Walker

Dear Mrs. Watson, Jeremiah, Andrew, Toni, friends, and family,
I am so sorry for your loss. Julie was always such a special friend, ever since we met in Kindergaten at Jefferson elementry. Our brownie troop, Mrs. Watson you and Mrs. Nido were brave souls to take us on. Then in band, learning to drive. All sorts of fun. I have so many fond and fun memories of Julie as we grew up in Port Huron. I am so happy I got to see Julie in the summer of 2009 when she drove to Port Huron to see Beverly and I. She was so proud of her sons. She showed us pictures and talked about you both with such pride and love. I met you both when you were quite young, so I am sure you do not remember me. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. I am sorry I can not be there for the service, I am in Arizona but know I am with you in spirit. I am saddened to know she is gone, but I will always remember Julie's infectious smile and when ever I think of her I can only smile. Much Love and Peace to you all, Barb Little
