Margaret Berridge Obituary

Margaret (Massa) Berridge Battle Creek Margaret (Massa) Berridge age 63, of Battle Creek, died Wednesday, November 10, surrounded by her family. She fought a courageous battle with lung cancer over the past three years. Margaret was a lifelong resident of Battle Creek, Michigan. She attended Lakeview Schools graduating from Lakeview High in 1965. Her class was the first to attend all four years at the then "new high school". After high school graduation she attended Wright Beauty Academy and then worked at various Ferrari Beauty Salons from 1966 to 1975. In 1985 she began working at Willard Public Library and continued there for 23 years until her retirement. Throughout the years Margaret was involved in the Beta Sigma Phi sorority, various bowling leagues, Girl Scout leader and Boy Scout Den mother. She volunteered as a room mother at Valley View Elementary School in Springfield and was a Harper Creek Swim booster parent. Margaret's "pride and joy" were her twins, Ryan and Laura. She enjoyed doing things with and for her family. She dedicated her life to being the "best mom" possible. As Laura and Ryan grew up and now have families of their own she enjoyed her role of grandma. To her, family always came first. Margaret's loving family include her son and daughter-in-law, Ryan and Heidi Berridge, granddaughter, Lena, of Grass Lake, Michigan; her daughter and son in-law, Laura (Berridge) and Mark DeLong, grandchildren, Kara and Drew of Scituate, MA; her sister, Lois (Massa) Shepard of Phoenix, AZ; and MANY aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tony and Betty Massa. The family will receive friends at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. this evening. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the Funeral Home with interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in Margaret's name to: University of Michigan Cancer Center Office of Development, 2800 Plymouth Road, Building 100, Ann Arbor, MI, 48109.

Ryan and Laura my deepest sympathy for your loss. I knew your mom since high school. The night that I first met my husband I was with your mom and Janice and that was 42 years ago. She will be greatly missed as us girls went back many years as friends. Your mom was the most kind and gentle person that I knew. Love to you both

Laura and Ryan, Margie was a delight to work with at Willard -- such a kind and gentle spirit, and always calmly took everything in stride. She fought a valiant battle with cancer. She will be remembered often with a very fond smile.

Laura and Ryan, so very sorry for the loss of your Mom. She was a wonderful lady! I was one of her Sorority sisters and I remember when you were born, you were the light of her life. May God be with your and your families during this difficult time.

Margie,as we all called her, has been a good friend of mine since high school. We had many good times together, I will miss her very much. Her twins are the same age as my son, even though they did not grow up together, I live in FL, we have always been in touch throughout the years. Margie was the most sweetest, easy going person I have ever met, she had a heart of gold. She had such a positive attitude the last time I saw her in May, she said she was going to beat this disease, never a smoker, only God will know why she had this terrible disease. I am proud to say I have been a friend of hers. Margie rest in peace, I will miss you.

My thoughts and Prayers go out to Laura and Ryan. I went to elementary and Junior High school with Laura and Ryan.
Mrs. Berridge was always kind and loving, to not only to her family and friends, but to the friends and companions of her children. I remember sitting on a carpet in Ms. Donna's room in Elementary school and having Mrs. Berridge read us books. The fact that I am now grown with children of my own and that I can remember her kind hands, warm heart and beutiful smile, I think that speaks volumes about the kind of person she was. Rest In Peace Mrs. Berridge. The world has lost a beautiful person, and if we had more Mrs. Berrridge's in our community now, our community would be a better place.
