Phillip Allen Obituary

Phillip E. "Gene" Allen Englewood, FL Phillip E. "Gene" Allen, 78, formerly of Delton, passed away on Sunday, October 24, 2010 in Englewood. Gene was born August 26, 1932. As a young man he enjoyed participating in rodeos especially the bronco riding competition in which he received many awards and trophies. Gene served in the United States Marine Corps from 1951 to 1954. He was an officer with the Emmett Township Police Department from 1955 to 1960 and served with the Battle Creek Township Police Department from 1960 to 1965. From 1965 to 1967 he served the United States Government as a police officer and firefighter at the Ft. Custer Military Base. In 1965 he also began a career with the City of Springfield as a firefighter. He retired from that position in 1988. Gene enjoyed woodworking and was a master carpenter. He married the former Virginia R. Allen on May 15, 1950. She preceded him on December 30, 1995. Gene is survived by his wife Marlyn Allen of Englewood, FL, his son Ron (Penny) Allen of Battle Creek and his granddaughter Kristina Allen. He also leaves his stepchildren Jeffrey Pender of Sarasota, FL and Laura Pender of Venice, FL, step grandchildren Phillip and Rebecca Pender and his father-in-law and caretaker Vern Lyons of Englewood, FL. Visitation will be from 6:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. Thursday at Royal Funeral Home. A memorial gathering will also be held at 10:00a.m., Friday, October 29, 2010 in the chapel at Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.

I worked for Gene when I was in high school at Delton as an apprentice, What a special person! I learned so much from him. I will never forget him.

My best childhood memories include Aunt Ruth, Uncle Gene and Ronnie. If it wasn't camping it was at the lake, good memories, and fun times. We were always together, and I loved him. Thinking of you Ronnie - with deepest sympathy. Terri

I am so saddened to hear about Uncle Gene passing. I have such great memories of him and Aunt Ruthie and Ronnie. Although the years and miles separated us he was always in my heart and I loved him.
