Richard Raymond Obituary

Richard J. "Dick" Raymond Battle Creek Richard J. "Dick" Raymond, 69, passed away on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at Battle Creek Health System. He was born on November 17, 1940, in Albion, the son of Victor E. and Ardella Irene (Fitzgerald) Raymond. Dick was an outstanding athlete while attending Springfield High School. He graduated in 1960. After high school Dick began his training to become an optician. He married the former Janett Elliott on July 27, 1963. Dick was a devoted husband to her during their 47 years of marriage. Dick joined the United State Army in 1966 and served as an optician at Fort Sam Houston Medical Center. After his discharge he returned to his work at Brunner Optical of which he later became a partner. During his career he was also employed in the office of Drs. Graham Colquhoun and Paul Geiser. He retired from the office of Dr. P. Jeffery Colquhoun. Dick had great love and pride for his family and grandchildren. He was also well known for his sense of humor. His interests included hunting, fishing, bowling and Detroit's professional sports teams. Dick enjoyed spending time at their property at Sunset Cove in Quincy where he was fond of visiting with his friends and neighbors. Surviving Dick, in addition to his wife are his daughter Christine (Elgin) Young of Bluffton, SC and his son Thomas Raymond of Holt. He also leaves his grandchildren Courtney and Camden Young and Jackson Raymond. He also leaves his nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his sister Beverly Woods. A memorial service will be held at 11:00a.m., Friday, October 15, 2010 at Royal Funeral Home. Interment will be at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorial contribution may be given to the American Heart Association.

Yes, "...an outstanding athlete at Springfield". That's the Dick I knew, but so much more. Dick, by strength of example hepled us all understand that hard work and dedication are the keys to achieving one's goals in athletics and life. Dick always has been and always will be present in my thoughts and now prayers. Janet, I'm thinking of you as well, and pray that you find comfort in your family and friends.
