Shirley M. Brown Battle Creek Shirley Marie (Powers) Brown, 78, of Battle Creek, MI, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, December 12, 2008 at Kairos Dwelling in Kalamazoo, MI. She was born March 19, 1930 in Battle Creek, MI the daughter of Mac Powers and Gladys (Carpenter) Powers. Shirley had worked for twenty-two years as a data-entry operator in the computer room at Battle Creek Health System and retired in 1992. She is survived by her son: David J. and Kimberlie Heywood of Richland, MI; two daughters: Linda K. and Ron Kline of Kalamazoo, MI, Christine L. Edwards of South Haven, MI; six grandchildren: Bethany Kline, Sheree Cohrs, Matthew O'Sullivan, Mark Kline, Donald Heywood, Jamie Heywood; ten great-grandchildren; two brothers: Jerry and Sue Powers of Battle Creek, Jack and Judy Powers of Springfield, Illinois; and a sister-in-law, Doris Felder of Battle Creek, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband: Donald J. Heywood (1970); and her second husband: James I. "Pete Brown" Brown (May 7, 2008). Shirley had graduated from Battle Creek Central in 1948. In her free time, she enjoyed playing bingo, all kinds of dancing, enjoyed sewing, bowling, and fishing and spending time with her friends at Sandy Pines Resort. She also enjoyed reading and cherished her dog - Bandy. She had attended Christ United Methodist Church and belonged to Burnham Brook running the grocery bingo. Visitation will be held at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service on Sunday from 6-8 p.m. when the family will be present at visitation. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, in the Bachman Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Carolyn Robinson-Fisher of Christ United Methodist Church officiating.
