Blant Hanks Obituary

Blant C. Hanks was born the 9th child and youngest son of Edward Wyatt (Dump) Hanks, Jr. and Rannie Lazenby Hanks, on October 27, 1924, and lived until Monday, July 18, 2011. He is preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Eula Lee Shepherd, Jessie B. Sheffield, Wyatt Hanks, Charley Hanks, Harry Hanks, Rannie Mae Dean, and John Edd Hanks. Blant graduated from Colmesneil High School, then joined the Marine Corps, where he served 3 years during WWII. He married Betty Glaze from Columbia, SC, and they were together for 65 years. He graduated from Sam Houston State Teachers College and taught school for several years. In 1952, he began working for Coca Cola Bottling Company, and retired as General Manager from the Lubbock office in 1986. Being an avid golfer, he and Betty moved to Wildwood in 1991 to be near family. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Betty; and his sisters, Mary Alice Lancaster and Lillian Estes of Woodville. He also leaves behind 23 nieces & nephews. The family would like to express our appreciation to Beverly Jones, caretaker and special friend, who has taken care of Blant and Betty for the past 22 months. We don't know what we would have done without her. Thank you Beverly. Visitation will be held at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home Chapel, in Woodville, on Friday, July 22nd from 10:00 a.m. til service time at 11:00 a.m., with interment to follow in Ebenezer Cemetery in Colmesneil.
