Mildred was a kind, friendly and funny lady. The night an ice storm hit Galveston, I was desperately worried about the Animal Shelter - because many of the animals had to be caged outside without heat. Next day I learned that Mildred had been there that night and arranged for industrial outside heaters to be sent and installed, immediately, with no delay. The animals survived. This is typical of Mildred´s kindness and generosity. I still miss her years later. She was unique.

Hmm? More dormitory stories about Mildred? Let me see. I do seem to recall she somehow managed to hook up a tiny TV in her room, and a mob of us would push together a couple of single beds and pile-in to watch. The reception was not great, but I think it was her generosity that mattered to the rest of us. Mildred had money, but she never made us work-for-your-meal-ticket girls feel less for it. Oh, if she didn't like something, she made no fake excuses for not "telling it like it was." All of my memories of her are fond and mostly funny.

Was reminded today of what a wonderful funny person she was when we roomed together at Loyola University in New Orleans. Cannot recall the exact year(s), but I was there between 1959 and 1963, and I do remember Millie as special and caring girl.

Mildred was one of the kindest and truly funniest people I have ever met. She had a smile that was infectious, and always knew what just to say
to make things a little better.
Mildred had one of the best attitudes towards trying new
things of anyone I knew. I will
never forget one cold day
towards the end of the summer in Jackson I convinced Mildred
and my mom to bundle up and go out to the park for dinner at Signal. The drive up was brisk but the drive back, in an open top Wrangler, was brutal. We all laughed and huddled together and shivered all the way back into town.
Mildred, I will never pass a
Maverick without thinking
about fro yogurt, and you, never eat a lobster without thinking about Friday nights with you and my mom, never
enter a Starbucks without
thinking about your mocha frappe, never go to the Noras
without thinking about blue cheese mushrooms shared, never play with my dogs without thinking about "peanut"
and chew kissing you, and Brody hugging your face, with monkey on your pillow all the while you are smiling and not getting upset at the overwhelming amount of attention from the fur babies. I
will miss your humor, your smile, your accent, your heart,
and your friendship. Thanks for sharing some amazing times
and so many laughs! And
for sure know I would not get
sprayed by a skunk for just anyone, only you Mildred :) My thoughts are with you, and your family. So sorry.

Mildred was such a kind, special, funny, genuine person. I can not even put into words all of the amazing memories
shared, trips taken, and laughs had. I will always hold the
memory of Mildred close to my
heart, and the memory of a
genuine person who loved, cared, and shared. My thoughts and prayers are with not only with her family, but also with Mildred.
