A dear unforgettable friend.

Mildred was a kind, friendly and funny lady. The night an ice storm hit Galveston, I was desperately worried about the Animal Shelter - because many of the animals had to be caged outside without heat. Next day I learned that Mildred had been there that night and arranged for industrial outside heaters to be sent and installed, immediately, with no delay. The animals survived. This is typical of Mildred´s kindness and generosity. I still miss her years later. She was unique.

Hmm? More dormitory stories about Mildred? Let me see. I do seem to recall she somehow managed to hook up a tiny TV in her room, and a mob of us would push together a couple of single beds and pile-in to watch. The reception was not great, but I think it was her generosity that mattered to the rest of us. Mildred had money, but she never made us work-for-your-meal-ticket girls feel less for it. Oh, if she didn't like something, she made no fake excuses for not "telling it like it was." All of...

Was reminded today of what a wonderful funny person she was when we roomed together at Loyola University in New Orleans. Cannot recall the exact year(s), but I was there between 1959 and 1963, and I do remember Millie as special and caring girl.
