Maurice Driscoll
The Reverend Monsignor Maurice Francis Driscoll, 93, fell asleep in Christ on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009, at The Little Sisters of the Poor Nursing Home Facility in Mobile, Ala. Monsignor Driscoll was born Oct. 21, 1915, in East St. Louis, Ill.
Monsignor Driscoll was ordained by the Most Reverend Henry J. Althoff on May 30, 1942. He was elevated to Monsignor on Jan. 12, 1966. Monsignor Driscoll attended Quincy Seminary and St. Henry's Seminary in Belleville, Ill., and Kenrick Seminary for graduate school. Monsignor Driscoll was assigned to the Associate Pastor, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Belleville, Ill., from June 18, 1942 to June 28, 1945, he was then assigned Chaplain at St. Elizabeth's Hospital and Assistant Chancery from June 28, 1945 to Aug. 18, 1955. And was the founding Pastor of Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish from Aug. 18, 1955, till his retirement on July 5, 1983.
Monsignor Driscoll was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Patrick Driscoll, Sr., (Jan. 11, 1935), Ellen Kerins Driscol, (Nov. 19, 1966); three brothers, Monsignor Thomas P. Driscoll, Jr., (March 18, 1979), James Joseph Driscoll (June 27, 1910), and William Joseph Driscoll (March 21, 1914).
Surviving are his brother, John V. (Betty) Driscoll, Sr., of Mobile, Ala.; three nieces, Barbara (John) Cocke, Betsy (Buddy) Humphrey, and Jeanne (Andy) Wynne; nephew, John V. (Mami) Driscoll, Jr.; great-nieces and nephews, Kristen (Woddy) Koppel, Mary Beth Humphrey, Emily Cocke, Hallie Wynne, Jade Nester, Danica Driscoll, Hannah Driscoll, John (Angela) Cocke, Neal (Jennifer) Humphrey, Bob (Meg) Humphrey, and Drew Wynne; great-great-nieces and nephews, Ava Cocke, George Koppel, Celia Grace Cocke and Elizabeth Koppel.

Visitation: The Rite of Christian Burial will begin with the reception of The Reverend Monsignor Maurice Francis Driscoll at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Belleville, Ill., Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, at 9 a.m. Visitation to follow from 9 to 11 a.m.

Funeral: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church with the Very Reverend John W. McEvilly, V.G. principal Celebrant and the Very Reverend John T. Myler, V.F. will celebrate as the Homilist. The Most Reverend Edward K. Braxton Bishop of Belleville, Ill., will preside and pray the Final Commendation. Interment will be held at Mount Carmel Catholic Cemetery, Belleville, Ill., following the Funeral Mass.

To the family of Monsignor Driscoll...... We are members of Our Lady Queen Of Peace Parish and when Monsignor was there he was a very gentle and kind man and was loved by all. We missed him when he left and he'll be remembered now and forever. Our Sympathy to your family.

At this time of earthly sorrow may your family rejoice in knowing that Monsignor Driscoll is now with the Lord. His life's work has been fulfilled. The world is a better place because of his contributions; he touched numerous lives in a positive way over many, many years. It is a tribute to him that Our Lady Queen of Peace parrish is strong and continues to survive. May God bless the remaining family members during this difficult time. The ARCHER family.
