Robert Liefer

Robert W. Liefer, 67, of Red Bud, Ill., born Oct. 12, 1946, in Red Bud, Ill., died Sunday, June 1, 2014, at his residence.

Robert was a correction officer at Menard Penitentiary, and a farmer. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and Men's Club in Ruma, Ill. He was an avid camper, fisherman, and hunter; and enjoyed spending time with his grandkids.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Ida, nee Kopp, Liefer; grandparents; a daughter, Christine; a son, Ray; a sister, JoAnn Liefer; and an infant brother, Paul Liefer.

Surviving are his wife, Doris Liefer, nee Roth, whom he married on June 3, 1967, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Red Bud, Ill.; his children, Robert "Ted" (Laura) Liefer of Metropolis, Ill., Brian (Rebekah) Liefer, of Red Bud, Ill., Katherine (Jamie) Valleroy, of Red Bud, Ill., Donna (Nahisi) Liefer Baloqun of Raleigh, N.C., Matt (Natalie) Liefer of Red Bud, Ill., Anita (Jim) Farmer of Red Bud, Ill., and Jeff (Connie) Liefer of Evansville, Ill; a brother and sister, Arlou (Clifford) Papenberg of Red Bud, Ill., and Oliver (Judy) Liefer of Carterville, Ill.; grandchildren, Amanda, Kayla, Erika, Cassie, Cierra, Camden, Christine, Brian, Syklar, Tanner, Jahi, Kesi, Dominick, Ashton, Jimmy, Jenny, Emily, Lacee and Zac; great-grandchildren, Ava and Jessica; father and friend of many "adopted" children; dear uncle, cousin and friend.

Memorials may be made to Christ our Savior Lutheran High School, in Red Bud, Ill.

Visitation: Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Ruma, Ill.

Funeral: A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Ruma, Ill., with Rev. James Leistico officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
