Harold Canter

Harold Canter, 73, of Granite City, IL, born on May 25, 1939, in Woodview, Ky., passed away on Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, at Stearns Nursing and Rehab Center, Granite City, Ill.

On Dec. 25, 1959, Harold married Edna Sykes, the love of his life in Granite City, Ill. Harold had worked at Big River Zinc in Sauget, Ill., as a cell attendant before retiring. He was a member of Glenview Nazarene Church in Glen Carbon, Ill. Harold enjoyed going to Hardees and the Senior Hall in Granite City, Ill., every morning to have coffee and talk with his friends and share stories, his nickname was storyteller. He also enjoyed fishing, going to church and to Branson, Mo. Harold will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Mitchell and Elizabeth, nee Epperson, Canter; three sisters and three brothers.

Surviving Harold are his loving wife, Edna Canter; dear son, Bill (Valerie) Canter of Edwardsville, Ill.; two grandchildren, Samantha Cushing and Michael Cushing; and many friends.

Visitation: Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Rd. Granite City, Ill.

Funeral: In celebration of his life, services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, Ill., with the Rev. Richard Unger Sr., officiating. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, Ill.
