Robert Chilcutt

Robert Keith Chilcutt, 78, of Granite City, Ill., born March 31, 1933, in Granite City, Ill., died at 9:11 a.m. on Friday, July 1, 2011, in Granite City, Ill.

Mr. Chilcutt had worked at Granite City Steel for 32 years, retiring in 1993 as a millwright leader. He was a Korean War US Navy veteran. Robert was a member of the VFW, SOAR, Wood Workers of America and the United Steel Workers Union. He loved the St. Louis Cardinals.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William "Harold" Chilcutt and Golda P., nee Wallace, Chilcutt; brothers, Wallace "Wally" and William "Bill" Chilcutt; and a sister-in-law, Patricia Chilcutt.

Surviving are his wife, Nina B., nee Milam, Chilcutt, whom he married on Nov. 7, 1958, in Granite City, Ill.; son, Jerry E. (Candace) Thompson Sr., of Granite City, Ill.; grandchildren, Jerry (Lori) Thompson of Troy, Ill., Jeff (Tracy) Thompson of Carlinville, Ill., and Jason Thompson of Granite City, Ill.; great-grandchildren, Blake, Dylan and Karsyn; and sister-in-law, Faye Chilcutt of Granite City, Ill.

Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association or St. Elizabeth Building Fund.

Visitation: Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at Thomas Saksa Funeral Home in Granite City, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at the funeral home with Father Chris Commerford officiating. Interment in St. John Cemetery in Granite City, Ill.
