Larry Schuetz Obituary

Larry Schuetz

Larry C. Schuetz, 72, formerly of New Baden, Ill., was called into the arms of God on Monday, Jan. 5, 2015, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo., as the result of a massive stroke. Larry was a cultivator of the earth, man of faith, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend to many.

Larry was born July 13, 1942, in New Memphis, Ill., to Norman and Alleen, nee Graul, Schuetz.

He was united in marriage to Dawn Evans on July 20, 2005, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Marion, Ill., and together they shared 15 years of companionship. Their love endures.

Larry proudly worked as an Illinois State Police trooper beginning his career on the Chicago tollways and retiring from District 11 in Collinsville, Ill., after 20 years of service. He also respectfully served his country by spending 6 years in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserves. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, eternal protector of the hummingbirds, and maker of the famous blackberry brandy.

A man of great strength and kind heart, Larry was always willing to help his friends and neighbors. He was an active member of the Blue Knights Chapter 22, Wesclin High School Class of 1960, the Round Table Coffee Club, Illinois Police Association - Shawnee Division, and Fraternal Order of Police. He will be missed by many. His beloved dog, Mel, was his constant companion until November 3, 2014, and was surely waiting to welcome him to heaven. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Conrad and Marie Schuetz , Martin and Mae Graul; and his parents, Norman and Alleen Schuetz.

Surviving are his wife, Dawn of Johnston City, Ill.; a daughter, Michelle (Mark) McCarty of Columbia, Ill., and their sons Sean and Ian; a daughter, Jennifer (Talmadge) Hewitt of Fremont, Neb., and their daughters Meghan and Alexis; son, Rodney (Michele) Schuetz of Collinsville, Ill., and their daughters Breanne, Miley and Paige; stepdaughter, Katie (Jeremy) Hayes of Bloomington, Ill., and their children Owen, Mitchell and Natalie; stepson, Kyle (Charlyn) Evans of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and their sons Garett and Sawyer; stepgranddaughter, Madilyn Pritchett of Evansville, Ind.; cousins Kenny (Donna) Graul, Diane (Steve) Smith, Renee (Tom) Cavalli, and a host of dear and treasured friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church or This Able Veteran Service Dog Program. For more information, or to sign the memorial guest register, visit bluefuneralhome.com.

For the Family, Joyce and I just learned of Larry's passing. I worked with Larry at FOP Lodge #41 and we played many rounds of golf together. A gentleman first and foremost. Our thoughts, prayers, and condolences are with you.

My sincerest sympathies to you and your family for the loss of Larry. Larry and his family lived just across a couple of fields from us; he was in my older sister's class (Judy); he and Judy went to the one room school in New Memphis, for many years, as did I and my twin brother, David Krausz, for 3 years. Then we all rode the school bus together when his father, Norman, was the bus driver. We all had some good times.

Larry and I were in the one room school all 8 grades elementary in New Memphis. His dad drove our school bus 11 years. His grandparents were great family friends. Tornado destroyed the farm except for the house1968 or 9
