David Grohs Obituary

David Grohs

David L. Grohs, 74, of Belleville, Ill., born February 9, 1943 in Belleville, passed away on June 10, 2017 at his residence.

David was a true public servant, serving his community in many different capacities. Beginning his police career as a Patrolman for the Caseyville Police Department, he later advanced to Senior Patrolman of the Marshal Program. Mr. Grohs also served as Chief Arson Investigator for the Caseyville Fire Dept. His real passion was with the fire department. Accordingly, David also worked with the Caseyville Fire Department where he attained the rank of Captain. He also served as the President of the Caseyville Fire Association. Outside of his public safety career, David drove a truck for Hyman Freightways and Schnuck's super markets. One of his proudest achievements was being inducted into the 1 Million Mile Club by Hyman and the American Trucking Association. A man of strong faith, he worshipped at both the Villa Hills Gospel Chapel and later at Bethel Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Aurea, nee Isselhardt, Grohs; a son, Dawayne Grohs; and sisters, Aurea "Nuddy" and Louise Renth.

David is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Linda, nee Vennum, Grohs; daughters, Terri (Doug) Dietz and Debra (Darrel) Frawley; and grandchildren, Shannon Blankenship, Jesse Frawley, Devin Frawley, Dane Dietz, and Addison England.

Dave was truly dedicated to his job as a police officer and fireman. I had the opportunity to work with Dave as a dispatcher for Caseyville PD many years ago. He always was a pleasure to work with no matter what. May you rest in eternal peace.

Dave was always a great man whom I admired and had become friends with, you helped me greatly in my early police career. May God have mercy on his soul and may he have eternal rest.

Dave was one of the 'good guys'. He saved by bacon on a few occasions on Caseyville PD. His heart was always in the right place. He helped me also in my early police career. You'll be remembered Dave.

Uncle Dave, you were always one of my favorite uncles. You offered a hug and a "God bless you" with every conversation. Always ready to help, full of great stores, a passion for firefighting, you will be missed. Praying for your family, you are all so precious to me.
