Dorothy Mae Shiley

1924 - 2014

Dorothy Mae McCaslin Shiley, age 89, passed away Aug. 16, 2014 in Bellingham. She treasured being independent and self reliant, and blessedly remained so until mortal death took her to be with her beloved husband, Bill, who died in 2003. Her love of learning and trying new things led her to travel the world with Bill. She would learn a craft (painting, ceramics, quilting), then share it with others. She also loved genealogy, reading, and volunteer work at her church and in the community. She will be remembered for her kindness, caring, and laughter. Dorothy was born Sep. 3, 1924 in Spokane to Albert F. and Carrie M. (Ickes) McCaslin. She married William Arthur Shiley in Tigard, OR on Jan. 18, 1947. Dorothy is survived by her daughter Linda (Ron) Parr of Vancouver, WA; sons James (Dawn) of Springville, UT, Kevin (Carrie) of Rexburg, ID, and Ronald (Eric) of Seattle, WA; sister-in-law Darlene Shiley of Pauma Valley, CA; 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Fri. Aug 22 at 9:00am, with a memorial service at 10:30am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 2925 James St., Bellingham. Interment will follow at Greenacres-Moles Cemetery. Her family suggests that in lieu of flowers, remembrances be made to the charity of your choice.
