Carl Hoth Obituary

Carl Hoth died on November 27, 2011 in Sun City Arizona, where he and his wife Ruth wintered. He was 91.
Dad was born in Stevens Point Wisconsin. As a child, he helped support his mother and sister during hard times. He enjoyed hunting and fishing for both the sport and the food. As an engineering student he met his lovely bride-to-be in college in Madison, WI.
During World War II he was a water point engineer in Germany, advancing with the U.S. combat lines to purify water for the troops. One week after the war ended he married Ruth, his love and support for the rest of his life. She shared his love for the outdoors and adventure.
Together they raised Ed, Chip, Peg and Don to appreciate the joys of nature, canoeing, and resourcefulness. Dad delighted in making a camp comfortable with his own creations, never the easiest way. He was an inventor, a bow-hunter, bridge-builder, carpenter, and he knew how to make most anything we needed. He taught us all to hunt. We spent most weekends out exploring the lakes and woods.
Dad was an engineer for Kimberly Clark, CH2M and later Georgia Pacific in Bellingham. He loved woodworking and fine craftsmanship. After retirement, he founded the NW chapter of the Wooden Canoe Heritage Assoc., bringing together craftsmen from the Northwest and Canada.
Dad didn't complain as he fought with his health challenges. He preferred to look at the joys in his life, and appreciated the accomplishments of others. He kept his intelligence and sense of humor until the end.
A celebration of Carl's life will be held at a later date in Bellingham.

Prayers for Ruth and the entire family, I have so many wonderful memories of hunting in eastern washington as a child. Carl was an amazing friend to my Dad and it gives me great comfort knowing that they are both in heaven watching over us. God Bless the Hoth family, Carl was great example to many of us, and he will always be remembered as a truly amazing and generous friend.

I was always impressed by how active "Mr. Hoth" was. I have many memories of him prepping a canoe in the driveway or anything else that would allow him to spend time outside. A nice man, a good neighbor. Peace and strength to the entire Hoth family.

I had the pleasure of working with Carl when he worked at Geogria-Pacific. He was always witty as you never new what he might be up to. My best to his family

There has never been a more gentle and generous man than my friend Carl. Your letters are something I treasure and even with your illness you would write a long and newsy letter, often filled with a joke or story. You will be missed by so many and we treasure a long and gentle friendship. You have provided all of us another way to look at life and to savor the beauty that surrounded you. Miss you my friend.
