Andrew Zanchi

Born Andrija Zanki December 28, 1919 in Komiza, Island of Vis, Croatia. Sponsored by his aunt and uncle, Nick and Fannie Vitaljic, Andrew came to Bellingham in June, 1936. He passed from this life in his Bellingham home on May 11, 2011. Andrew loved his many years working as a commercial fisherman and equally loved, and was proud of, his years worked at Intalco Aluminum. His crowning glory and his life's passion was his garden. Andrew's old country ways will be missed by those that remain. He was part of a culture that is nearly gone from this area. Andrew was preceded in death by Rose, his wife of 67 years, on August 5, 2010. He is survived by his son Andy, daughters Rozanne and Romayne, and Mitch Kink, his best friend from the time Andrew came to Bellingham as a young man. Andrew is also survived by his brother, Luka, and sister, Katarina of Croatia. At Andrew's request, there will be no service. Memorials may be made to Whatcom Hospice.
