Marion Huggins Obituary

May 11, 1928 - January 3, 2012
Marion (Hardin) Huggins passed away peacefully with her family present on January 3, 2012 in San Jose, California as a result of pulmonary fibrosis. Born in Monroe, Washington, to Judge Boone and Dorothy (Siler) Hardin, she was raised from early childhood in Bellingham. After graduation from Bellingham High School, class of 1946, she attended Western Washington (College) University and graduated from Washington State University in 1950 with a degree in Home Economics specializing in textiles and clothing. Shortly after graduation, she married Bellingham native Robert Huggins to whom she was married for 62 years until her passing. They originally settled in Richland, where her husband joined General Electric and the first three of her four children were born. The family moved to San Jose in 1955 where her fourth child was born and she resided the remainder of her life. Marion excelled in caring for her family, maintaining a beautiful home, and entertaining her friends and her husband's business associates. An extremely skilled seamstress, artist and doll maker, she concentrated her hobbies in those areas and gained high recognition for her professional level work at many art and doll shows throughout her local area. After her husband's retirement, Marion and Bob traveled extensively throughout the world enabling her to add substantially to her extensive doll collection. In later years, her travels concentrated on the United States where she visited all 50 states as well as Canada and Mexico. Marion and Bob have lived in the home they built in the Almaden Country Club for over 48 years enjoying many happy events and occasions with family and friends. Her family will always remember her loving kindness, steadfast loyalty to her husband and children, and the pleasure she took in devoting her life to them, among her many treasured gifts. In addition to her devoted husband Robert, Mrs. Huggins is survived by their four children: Terry Huggins Carlitz of San Francisco, Michael Huggins and his wife Debra of Sammamish, Washington, Janet (Huggins) Holt and her husband Owen of San Jose and Susan Huggins of San Jose. She is also survived by sisters June (Hardin) Thomas and Anne (Hardin) Taggart and brother Glenn Hardin, and numerous nieces and nephews. A private memorial and interment will be held at Bayview Cemetery in Bellingham. You may share memories with the family at

I was very sorry to hear of Marion's passing. We had been friends since college and I looked forward to her visits and receiving her yearly letter at Christmas. I have fond memories of a visit with her and her family many years ago and give them all my sypathy.
