Cornelius Noteboom Obituary

A Man of Integrity and Influence Cornie Noteboom, of Lynden, Washington, passed away on Sunday, February 27, 2011 at the age of 92. Cornie was intelligent, loyal, and a man of integrity. He was a man of humble influence who would want everything said and done in his honor to in turn honor the Lord. Cornie was a dairyman, world traveler, scholar, golfer, fisherman, avid hunter of virtually every North American game, and a long-time elder, leader and Sunday School teacher at First Reformed Church. He was an astute businessman, and served with loyalty as Secretary/Treasurer at Darigold for many years. His sense of humor, grasp of the facts, and mild manner helped draw people together to come to a solution for the betterment of everyone. He was a peacemaker who touched and influenced hundreds if not thousands of lives - with integrity - in the farming community, Darigold, Kiwanis, and his church. In short, Cornie loved to rally behind a cause, especially in the sharing of Scripture, and was a humble fix-it person who gained the trust and respect of his entire community. And he loved teaching the nurses at the nursing home a few Dutch words right up until the end. Cornie was preceded in death by his brother, Russell Noteboom, and daughter-in-law, Joan Noteboom. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 70 years, Alma (his little sweetheart – his myn kleine meisje); children, Irwin (Marlene) Noteboom, Marilyn (Lyle) Bennink, and Denny (Arlene) Noteboom; grandchildren, Kim (Jeff) Strating, Kyla (Jim) Gibbs, Kari (Randy) Fehr, Julie (Dan) Ranson, Lisa (Alan) Hickey, Scott Noteboom, Denise (Ken) Koenig, Susan (Michael) Cummings, Melisa Lancaster, and Hank Lancaster; nineteen great-grandchildren; his brother, Leroy "Pete" (Nancy) Noteboom; sister-in-law Margene Noteboom, and numerous nieces and nephews. A Graveside Committal will be held Monday, March 7, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Monumenta Cemetery, followed by a Celebration of Cornie's Life, and Reception, at 2:00 PM at First Reformed Church, Lynden. In place of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Cornie's honor to the First Reformed Memorial Fund, 610 Grover St., Lynden, WA 98264, or Western Theological Seminary, 101 E. 13th St., Holland, MI 49423.
