Donna Miller Obituary

Donna A. Miller passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 6, 2011, at the Whatcom Hospice House. She was born on May 31, 1933, in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada, to William and Cora Umber McLean. Donna attended Ballard High School and the University of Washington in Seattle. She married Robert Miller on July 16, 1955, and then raised two daughters, Lori and Kim, in Manhattan Beach, California. She was very active in her community, including being a preschool teacher, scout leader, ladies' club president and a real estate salesperson. Donna loved camping, water skiing, and golfing and was noted for being an excellent cook and gracious party hostess. Donna and Robert retired to Semiahmoo in Blaine, Washington, in 1992, where Donna enjoyed golfing, entertaining, traveling, and serving her community in various leadership positions.

During her last year, Donna decided that she would write a cookbook as a legacy for her grandchildren. She invited relatives, and then friends, to submit recipes for the book. Anyone who submitted a recipe would receive a free copy, with any additional books to be sold and any profits given to the St. Joseph Foundation for the planned integrated cancer center at the hospital. Her book turned out to be quite a success with over 600 recipes and over 400 copies distributed.

Donna is survived by her husband, Robert; her daughter, Lori Lenz; and grandson, Scott; and her daughter, Kim Mitseff; granddaughter, Cora; and grandsons, Nik and Keegan. Donna requested than any memorials be given to the St. Joseph Hospital Foundation at 2901 Squalicum Pwky., Bellingham, WA 98225 or online at peacehealth.org/sjhf.
