Ernestine "Ernie" Hill

Ernestine Hill Obituary

Ernestine "Ernie" (Swann) Hill passed away Monday, March 22, 2011, due to complications of a stroke. She was 83. Born October 27, 1927, in Weed, CA, Ernestine and her brothers moved with their parents, Ernest and Ethel (Monk) Swann, to Washington state in the early 1930's. In 1945, Ernestine graduated from Ferndale High School. That same year she met Jack Hill. They married in 1946 and had three children, daughters Janet and Coleen (Kathy) and son Dana. In 1982 Ernestine opened 'Lil School Day Care. She ran the business out of her home until the end of 1994, at which time she retired. Ernie was an avid reader and an active member of the First Baptist Church in Ferndale. She enjoyed history and travel and loved her friends and extended family. Little children always brought an extra sparkle to her eyes. Ernestine was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Her parents and five brothers all preceded her in death. She is survived by her three children; three granddaughters, Stacy, Autumn and Amanda; two great grandsons, Cain and Damion; numerous nieces and nephews; extended "family"; and many friends. A private graveside service will be held for family, and a memorial service for all wishing to attend will be at First Baptist Church in Ferndale on Saturday, April 16, 2011, at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ernie's name to Whatcom Hospice, 800 E Chestnut St, Bellingham, WA 98225 or to Shepherds, 1805 15th Ave, Union Grove, WI 53182-1597.
