Gloria Lathrop Obituary

Gloria Goldine Lathrop passed away peacefully April 14, 2011, in the comfort of her home with loving daughters, Teri and Cheri, and faithful dog Hannah, by her side. Born December 4, 1927, in New Westminster, BC, she was the daughter of Oscar Blatter of Alma, Wisconsin, and Verna Patricia McRae of Kamloops, BC. Goldine attended school in New Westminster and worked in downtown Vancouver where she met and married Royal Air Force pilot, William White, in 1945. He was killed in service and Goldine relocated to Pasadena, California where she later met and married the love of her life, Neil B. Lathrop in 1953. After living in Pasadena, California, and Seattle, Washington, they relocated to Bellingham in 1963, where they settled to raise their daughters. Goldine was a devoted and loving wife and mother, and a warm host who loved to entertain friends and family. She was an avid bridge and cribbage player who left many an opponent behind the skunk line. Although she lived with Multiple Sclerosis, she enjoyed a full and independent life. Goldine especially enjoyed music, travel, attending live performances, swimming and Wednesday bridge with friends. Goldine will be deeply missed by her two children, daughters Teri Treat, (Matt), and Cheri Shagren Badgley, (Mike). She also leaves a grandchild, Cooper Treat, and the very special memories of her two guardian angels, Lauren and Trevor Shagren. She is also survived by two brothers, Bill Blatter and Jordy (Shirley) Blatter, and a sister, Bonnie Blatter, and numerous nieces and nephews. Goldine will long be remembered for her courage, gracious style, full-of-life smile and the sparkle in her eyes. She was the heart of the many wonderful memories, stories and good times that were made at the Lathrop household. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Assumption Church at 1:00 Wednesday, April 20, 2011. A private burial service will be held for family at Bayview Cemetery immediately following the service. You may share your thoughts and memories of Goldine in the online memorial guestbook at www.molesfuneralhome.com In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Assumption Catholic School, 2116 Cornwall Avenue, in Bellingham, WA 98225, or to the National MS Society, Greater Northwest Chapter, 192 Nickerson Street, Suite 100, Seattle, WA 98109.
