Lorene Porter Obituary

Lorene E. Porter, a lifetime resident of Everson, Whatcom County, passed away February 7, 2011 at Hospice House in Bellingham at the age of 93. Lorene, also known as Rena, was born April 15,1917 to John and Marie Potter at Clipper, WA. She graduated from Mt. Baker High School and attended Western Washington University. She worked at the Department of Social Services for the State of Washington for 20 years before retiring. Lorene was a member of the Everson Presbyterian Church and the Everson Senior Center. She enjoyed working in her yard and garden very much. Lorene married Charles Porter on May 14, 1937 and moved to Everson. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles and son Wayne. She is survived by her daughter Carole Abbanat and husband Jerry of Monterey, CA, granddaughter Deanne and husband Paul Caldwell of Oakland, CA, grandson Stephen and his wife Susan of Oakland, CA and grandson Scott of Monterey, CA. A memorial service will be held on Saturday February 19th at 1 PM at the Everson Presbyterian Church. Memorial donations may be made to the Everson Fire Department's building fund. Rena was a wonderful, strong woman who I worshipped with at the Presbyterian Church for decades. I always enjoyed talking to her in later years when I visited in Everson. She cared about people and was a friend to all.
