Edward Froberg Obituary

Edward "Ed" Froberg, age 85, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Monday, December 12. Ed was born at home on the Noon Road on April 11,1931 and moved to a larger farm in Sumas when he was 11 years old. He graduated from Nooksack Valley High School, attended Western Washington College (now WWU) for 2 years before entering the Air Force during the Korean War. Upon discharge from the Air Force, he returned to Whatcom County where he met then married his wife, Vina on April 21, 1956. After being declined for a position in the Anacortes oil refineries due to back problems, fate shined upon Ed as he was able to find his life-long work with the Department of Agriculture from which he retired in 1987. His work relocated him from the county office in Lynden to the state office in Spokane where he and his family lived from 1970-1997 before Ed and Vina moved back to Bellingham. Ed was an avid pheasant hunter, took pleasure in hacking away at golf balls and enjoyed the outdoors. He and his wife were passionate travelers, spending time traveling throughout the U.S. in their R.V., both independently as well as with their RV club, Holiday Ramblers. As part of his travels, Ed enjoyed yearly journeys to his daughter's B&B in Glacier Bay, AK where he'd fish, sight see and help with various projects on his daughter's "Pop do" lists. Ed was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Vina, in 2015. He is survived by his 3 children - Dean (Shari); Jan; Debbie (Brent) as well as his 2 grandchildren - Ryan (Kayla) and Krysta (Tanner). Services will be held on January 6, 2017 with viewing at Gillies Funeral Home from 9am-12pm. A private family graveside service at 1:30pm followed by a Celebration of Life event at Fox Hall next to the Hampton Inn (Bellingham Airport), 3985 Bennett Dr. from 3pm-6pm. All are invited to sign the on-line guest book at: www.Gilliesfuneralhome.com.

January 6, 2017

Ed was the beloved husband of my sister Vina Westover Froberg. We both served in the Air Force during the Korean War and both were graduated from Nooksack Valley High School. Our families enjoyed RV'ing and had several very enjoyable family reunions together.
I remember Ed as being a very good basketball player on the Nooksack Valley Pioneer team which was probably the best school team up to that time. Ed's son Dean was a good friend as well as cousin to our son Jeff and both had a life long love of sports as Ed did too. Ed loved Pheasant hunting with friends and family and will be missed by us all. Now, may God's blessings be with Ed and his family now and for ever.
