Dear Wayne and Melodie, it was with great sadness I learned of the loss of your son Lancelee as it was announced at Caffe Lena's open mic. I knew your son as Southstar, that's how he signed in and he always spoke with great feeling and respect. Willie the Moak and myself talked about what a fine young man he was and it was remembered he was often accompanied by his dad. Again my deepest condolences.

Dear Wayne and Melodee, I'm sorry I can't be at the service the 11th. I'm sure it will be beautiful, full of music. If I were there I would place a bird nest, white birch branch, brown oak leaves, moss, rocks and earth on a tray for him. I'm sure he loved nature as much as you both do.
I'm sure he was an exceptionally smart person, reflecting your talents, values and goodness. And I'm sure he touched the lives of many in a positive way. May time heal your grief. With love, Sandra

I am deeply saddened to learn of the tragic accidental death of your son, Lancelee. There are no adequate words to bring enough comfort, consolation or appeasement of grief for such an abrupt and tragic loss, especially the loss of a child. This approaching Christmas will be the two year anniversary of the sudden and unexpected death of my beloved husband, Paul Strausman, who was an arts-in-education colleague of yours. I know from experience that there is no way to avoid the pain of grief. You must walk through it, tears always but a heartbeat away. But mourning does soften with time, acceptance grows, and we do eventually move forward from the surreal, the unfathomable, from what we cannot even believe to be true right now. You raised a wonderful son who touched many lives and brought goodness into the world while he was here. Who knows what ripples his life may have started that now spread out into the world in many beautiful, positive and life affirming ways. I think of my Paul this way, and it brings me a small measure of solace. I wish the same for you, and more. Much peace and healing and care. My thoughts are with you and all of your loved ones at this very difficult time.

Dear Melodee and Wayne, There are no words to express the shock and heartfelt sympathy I felt upon hearing the news of Lancelee's death. Since my words are inadequate, other than to offer my support and friendship; let me give you the words of another, in hopes you find comfort...

Death is nothing at all.
Henry Scott Holland 1847-1918

Death is nothing at all.
I have only slipped away to the next room.
I am I and you are you.
Whatever we were to each other,
That, we still are.

Call me by my old familiar name.
Speak to me in the easy way
which you always used.
Put no difference into your tone.
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.

Laugh as we always laughed
at the little jokes we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me. Pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word
that it always was.
Let it be spoken without effect.
Without the trace of a shadow on it.

Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same that it ever was.
There is absolute unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind
because I am out of sight?

I am but waiting for you.
For an interval.
Somewhere. Very near.
Just around the corner.
