Dexter Shultz Obituary

Dexter R. "Dutch" Shultz

NAHANT, MA Mr. Dexter R. "Dutch" Shultz, age 82, died peacefully on Monday at his home after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late June C. (Clark) Shultz. Born in Bennington, VT, he was the son of the late Dexter G. and Lillian (Brundage) Shultz. He was raised and educated in North Bennington, VT and also attended the Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, OK. He had lived in Nahant since the early 1960's. Dexter served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He worked as a flight engineer for American Airlines for 37 years in the roles of Mechanic, Professional Flight Engineer, and Check Airman until his retirement in 1993. He was also a retired Sergeant with the Nahant Police Reserve, serving for 43 years. Dexter was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved the ocean. In his retirement, he enjoyed golfing and traveling with his wife. He had his private pilots license and owned and restored his own plane, a 1942 Stinson, which he flew almost to the end of his life. In his younger years, he was involved in scouting and youth sports programs with his children. Dexter was a mentor to many and will be lovingly remembered by his family as a true jack-of-all-trades and the go-to person when something needed to be done. He was a proud Vermonter, and was most at peace spending time with his family, or at his home in Vermont. Dexter was a member of the Nahant Lions Club as well as the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his six children; Tonya Lawyer and her husband, David of Bristol, VT, Dale Shultz and his wife, Kathy of Methuen, Michael Shultz and his wife, Maureen of Nahant, Kimberly Campo and her husband, Paul of Lynn, Patrick Shultz of Goffstown, NH, and Stephen Shultz and his wife, Jennifer of Lynn; 11 grandchildren; Amanda, Emily, Taylor, Samantha, McKenzie, Mason, Olivia, Ava, Nicole, Tyler and Nicholas; as well as several nieces and nephews.
