WILLIAMSTOWN - Matthew Stuart Jenkins, 38, of Williamstown, died Thursday, May 10, 2012, at University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center in Worcester following a prolonged illness.
The son of Carl and Jane Jenkins, also of Williamstown, Matthew was born in North Adams on March 25, 1974. After attending Mount Greylock Regional High School, Matthew graduated from Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan in 1992. He pursued degrees in Music Performance and Music Education at Ithaca College, graduating in 1996.
Matthew taught music in the Pittsfield Public School System from 1997 through 2006, and led the Williams College Marching Band from 1999 through 2005. Dear Jenkins Family,
We are so sorry for your loss, our prayers are with you.We knew Matt from his time as music teacher and band director at Herberg Middle School. Matts classroom was a refuge for all students with a musical interest. I will always remember Herberg's Jazz Ensemble playing at KB Toys Christmas Party, they truly impressed their audience. A few lucky parents got to go as "roadies". Matt's real interest in his student musicians was impressive. He will certainly be missed by all that knew him.

Carl, Jane, Andrew and family,
Matty was the most talented, friendly, funny, loyal and enriching person i have ever had the honor of sharing the stage and friendship with. Every person that knew him has been touched forever by his vibrant energy and I am honored to be among that group of people. May God's Grace surround your hearts and bring you comfort and warmth knowing that you raised a kind and thoughtful son and a man to be proud of. His memory lives in his music and the bright impresssion that he left with every single person he came in contact with. I am so sorry for your loss and and so blessed to have known Matthew Jenkins.

To the Jenkins family,
I am so sorry for your loss. I have fond memories of a very young Matt and David playing violin at one of the piano recitals at the Jenkins home. I had the pleasure of working with Matt years later when Reid and Herberg were being renovated, and we were thrown together in Dalton for a year. His wonderful sense of humor and wit were so appreciated during that time.
You are all in my prayers. I pray that you have the peace of God knowing that He has Matt under His wings.
Sincerely,
Laurie Fitzpatrick

Carl, Jane and Dave,

Our hearts go out to you during this difficult period. This is so very tough to reconcile, but in the end, the sun rises on so many fond memories we shared with Matt ... from Sand Springs Pool to Scouting and everything in between. He was gifted and we'll certainly miss him for the talents he shared with us, but his broad smile and warm soul will live with us forever.

Our well wishes are with you today ... and everyday.

Love,
