Kenneth Lilienthal Obituary

Kenneth Gustav Lilienthal 1928-2011 PITTSFIELD Kenneth Gustav Lilienthal died on February 3, 2011 at Hillcrest Commons in Pittsfield, at the age of 82. Born July 12, 1928 in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Matilda T. and August B. Lilienthal. Preceded in death by his wife Rita E. (Marone) and his brother, James R. and granddaughter Ashley. He leaves three sons, Peter, Raymond and Luke, and two daughters, Andrea and Mary and one stepson, Greg, along with grandsons, Paul, Joshua, Troy, Patrick, Scott, Matthew and Donald. On June 20, 1946 Ken joined the US Army Air Corp at the age of 17. Trained as a Flight Engineer for the A-26 Invader bomber. He was honorably discharged as Sergeant from the US Air Force after 4 years. He attended New York University and graduated with a degree in Journalism. Ken worked many years as Executive Editor in Chief for Morgan Grampian Publishing Co. and five years at Berkshire Life as Editor of Publications in Pittsfield where he retired at the age of 62. He had a great passion for fishing, especially fly fishing and tying flies. After tying hundreds of flies he then started creating many of his own. He spent many hours testing his newly crafted flies on the rivers in Berkshire County. Ken really enjoyed fishing with his grandsons on Cheshire Lake. The Lilienthal family would like to express our highest appreciation for the quality of care provided by Hillcrest Commons, especially the staff of Unit 5, as well as HospiceCare in The Berkshires, Inc. At Ken's request there will be no memorial service, and if desired, donations can be made to Eleanor Sonsini Animal Shelter, 63 Downing Pkwy, Pittsfield, MA 01201 (413) 448-9800.
