Lori Dalton Obituary

Lori Anne Dalton, of Sheffield, passed away on Friday, March 29, 2013.
She is survived by her husband, Michael; son, Sean, and daughter, Katie Rose, and son-in-law, Rob Rose. She is the beloved daughter of Barbara and Bob Rech of Venice, Fla., and the sister of Jean and Steve Lillmars of Danville, Pa., and John and Lindy Rech of Cedar Crest, N.M. She is the daughter-in-law of John Dalton of Millburn, N.J., and the sister-in-law to Barbara and Ed Burstein, Daniel Cannizzo, Kathleen Dalton and Robert Norton.
Lori was born in Aiken, S.C., on July 18, 1955, and graduated from Henderson High School in West Chester, Pa. She went on to earn her BS in Environmental Sciences from East Stroudsburg State University, Pa.
She worked as an educator at the Pocono Environmental Education Center (PEEC) where she met Michael Dalton and they soon married. When the family moved to Sewanee, Tenn., Lori returned to school, earning her RN Degree and spent the rest of her working career in various nursing posts. She worked in home health nursing to med-surgery and OR nursing.
When the family moved back to New England, Lori was on the nursing staff at Berkshire School in Sheffield, Canyon Ranch in Lenox and Indian Mt. School in Lakeville, Conn.
Lori loved the outdoors. She loved walks in the woods with family and friends, especially with her dogs. She enjoyed camping, beachcombing and sea kayaking along the Maine Coast. Her collection of sea glass is outstanding; she saw the beauty in every stray bit of weathered glass strewn on the sands.
FUNERAL NOTICE: An outdoor Memorial Service is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, at the Kellogg Conservation Center in Egremont, with the Reverend John Rech presiding. Those in attendance should please park at Berkshire School, from which a shuttle service will be provided to the Kellogg Center. Parking is not available at the Kellogg Center.

What I will remember and cherish about Lori is her uplifting spirit and contagious laugh! You couldn't help but laugh with her and she brought sunshine and light into every space she occupied. I had the honor of working along side Lori at various summer gigs on Islesboro. I chuckle when I remember our breaks - looking out over the bay with a end-of-the-work-day drink in our hands. Lori, I know you're relaxing, healing and putting your feet up right now, but we will miss you here. We will meet again and share a toast to happy times and wonderful memories. My sympathy and heart goes out to Mike and the children - I know her wonderful light and presence will be sorely missed, especially by her family. Love, Bonnie (Mowery-Oldham)

Lori and I shared many great times together playing hockey, lacrosse and doing gymnastics! It is difficult to imagine the pain she must have suffered with. Lori - I will always remember your sparkling personality and kind, generous ways! My prayers to her family and friends.

We became friends with Lori and Mike when we worked together in Tennessee (1988-1993). Lori loved to tease her friends and had a gentle laugh. When our son was born, she came to the hospital and snuck past the nurses with some pizza for us to munch on -- a treasured memory. Another time Lori got a ticket for running a stop sign in her yellow Subaru station wagon, but she got the traffic court judge to dismiss the whole thing -- I doubt he believed her explanation -- he could probably just see that she was such a good person and he could not bear to make her pay a fine. We had hoped to visit with each other one more time on this earth, to take the ferry over to the cottage on Isleboro and have another wonderful seafood feast, but now we'll look forward to an even greater reunion in God's Kingdom. Much love to Mike, Sean, Katie, and all the rest of Lori's family. Walk toward the light...

Mike, Katie, and Sean,
From the time Lori and i met at East Stroudsburg we became soul mate friends. Our love for the outdoors made us different because we preferred a walk in the woods over fancy vacations. My heart is aching because I always knew I could call on her even if we hadn't talked to for a while. It has been an everlasting friendship since 1973.

The words written about Lori highlight the life of a woman who was in love with her family and this good earth. She was constantly striving to find her place in the world and offered people nothing but kindness and compassion. What the words cannot capture is the essence of her sparkle and contagious laugh. I shall miss her dearly. From Hannah Anderson, grateful friend

To Michael, Sean, Katie, the Rech family and the Dalton family.
I am deeply saddened to hear of Lori's passing. I pray that someday you will be able to find comfort from your grief. It pains me to know that Lori has been suffering and unable to find relief. In my heart and my thoughts, Lori will always be that gifted student and athlete I knew from our days in junior and senior high school. I hope your loving memories of Lori will ease you through your sorrow.
