Richard Koneazny Obituary

KONEAZNY -- Richard Barhoff Koneazny died Friday, Nov. 3, 2006, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Born in Hartford, Conn., on Oct. 22, 1931, to John J. Koneazny Sr. and Chrystene Barhoff Koneazny, Richard was a resident of Canaan, Conn., for most of his life. He leaves his devoted wife, the former Margherita Cattelan; a daughter, Maria Gray of The Woodlands, Texas; a son, Paul Koneazny of Mill River; their families, Scott, Luke and Robert Gray, and Sheila, Val and Olie Koneazny; and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves a brother, retired Col. John J. Koneazny of Sheffield. He was predeceased by a brother, William C. Koneazny. Since retiring as principal of Curtis Insurance Agency in 1995, Mr. Koneazny energized his pursuit of fishing, hunting and other outdoor activity. Well-known and respected in his community, Mr. Koneazny was regarded as a hard worker and a good friend to many. Prior to his career with Curtis Insurance, he was a supervisor at Wash ‘n Dry and at Peerless Tree Experts and served in the Army Reserve. His involvement in the community included the Lions Club, the Canaan/Falls Village Historical Society, the Rod and Gun Club and the North Canaan Housing Authority Board. Mr. Koneazny was a Justice of the Peace and a charter member of both the Canaan Kiwanis and Canaan Valley Sporting clubs. A finance committee member and former Eucharistic minister of St. Joseph's Church in Canaan, and a volunteer for the National Shrine of the Divine Mercy in Stockbridge, Mr. Koneazny will be remembered by many as a devout Roman Catholic, a family man and a friend. Calling hours will be Tuesday, Nov. 7, from 4 to 7 at NEWKIRK-PALMER FUNERAL HOME in Canaan, Conn. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Joseph's Church on Wednesday, Nov. 8, at 10, with interment to follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
