To Mary's family,

Our hearts are broken, and you are in our daily thoughts. Our daughter Lucy was a freshman at UVM when she joined Mary's freshman kayaking trip before school started. Lucy was warmly welcomed by Mary and her fellow guides, and immediately put all of us at ease. Mary has a very special place in my heart for her help easing Lucy's transition into college life and new friends. She will continue to be a bright light in our lives and we thank you for sharing her with us.

Mary was a leader on my son's biking trek this summer. She was the first person to greet my son at the trek and to assure him that the biking adventure would be great.

I could not help but notice that on every picture documenting the trek Mary stood out, with a wide smile, radiating happiness and joy.

We are deeply saddened about the devastating passing of this wonderful and accomplished young woman.

Nancy, Joe, and Andy:

I never had the pleasure of meeting Mary, but I've heard so many wonderful things about her from Arlene. I loved the spunk and yearning for adventure which she demonstrated in a brief video. I know how deeply she'll be truly missed by those whom she graced with her joy and kindness.
