Margaret Shackelford "Peggy" Culp

1926 - 2016

August 27, 1926 - August 16, 2016 Margaret "Peggy" Shackelford Culp passed away on August 16, 2016. Born on August 27,1926, she was a member of Delta Delta Delta at her beloved University of Alabama where she graduated as a Phi Beta Kappa. She was active in Birmingham as a member of the Junior League of Birmingham, Linley Heflin, the Highlands Book Club, Gaities Dance Club, and Dirt Daubers Garden Club, among other activities. She was predeceased by her loving husband of many years William Newton Culp, Jr. She loved her family and is survived by her daughter Margaret Trawick of Panama City Beach, Florida; son William N. Culp III (Martha Lee) of Birmingham; and daughter Carol Culp of Atlanta, Georgia. She is also survived by a brother Gus Shackelford of Redondo Beach, California and a sister Barbara Ringer of Atlanta, Georgia. Peggy also loved her grandchildren including Kip Smith (Charlotte) of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Katherine Hammond (John) of Birmingham, Margaret Philips (Ian) of Birmingham, Martha Culp of Chattanooga, Tennessee; Leonora Bomar (Grier) of Greenville, South Carolina; Daphne Culp of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; and Lillian Culp of Birmingham. She is also survived by four great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Third Presbyterian Church of Birmingham at 11:30 Saturday, August 20.
