ELIZABETHTOWN– James William "Bill" Fisher entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at the age of 87.
Mr. Fisher was born on Sept. 20, 1928, the second youngest of seven, to George Walton Fisher and Marion Smith Fisher.
Born and raised in Elizabethtown, Mr. Fisher graduated from Elizabethtown High School in 1945, followed by Wake Forest University where he earned his B.S. in Science in 1951, after a two year stint in the U.S. Army. He married his wife, companion and eternal soul mate, the late Elizabeth Jean Cole in 1953.
Affectionately known as "Bo-Daddy" by his beloved family and friends and Mr. Fisher in the classroom during his 32-year tenure in the Bladen County School System, Mr. Fisher carried his passion for teaching into retirement, volunteering at Bladen Community College and White Lake Department of Corrections.
Mr. Fisher, was a longtime member of Elizabethtown Presbyterian Church, where he was a staple in the choir. Mr. Fisher had a passion and respect for flying, hunting and wildlife, oftentimes sharing these interests with family and friends.
Mr. Fisher will be forever remembered for his devotion to God and family, sharp wit, patience and love for the Elizabethtown community.
Mr. Fisher is survived by his two sons, Cole Auburn Fisher, and Scott Walton Fisher and wife Toni of Elizabethtown; daughter, April Fisher Lohr and husband Mike of Archdale, NC; a sister Catherine "Kitty" Fisher Cole and husband Jim; eight grandchildren; Lindsey Lohr Cox and husband Chad, Robert Neil Caison III, Cole Auburn Fisher Jr. and wife Angielette, Christopher McRae Caison and wife Megan, Courtney Caison Andrews and husband Harrison Luke Andrews, Luke Griffin Fisher, Will Beasley Fisher, Walton Drew Fisher; four great grandchildren, Lauren Nicole Fisher, Cleo Kirsten Cox, Marcy-Marie Cox and Reece Calvin Cox.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 30, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 31, at 11 am at Elizabethtown Presbyterian Church with Dr. Chris Denny officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Elizabethtown Presbyterian Church, PO Box 576 Elizabethtown, NC 28337.
