Crayton Green Hall Obituary

FLETCHER: Crayton Green "Sparky" Hall, 89, of Fletcher, NC, died peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 in Hendersonville, NC. Born in Columbus, GA he was the only child of Cecil Dempsey Hall and Laura Lillian Green.
He enlisted in the United States Navy Armed Guard on December 7, 1942 and served in both the North Atlantic and the South Pacific with the 7th fleet in the Philippine Campaign.
Crayton graduated from Leesville High School in 1946 and graduated from Northwestern State College, Natchitoches, LA, where he was a member of Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity, Nu Chapter, and where he met and married Ida Mae Crochet, of Lakeland, LA. He worked as a Process Development Engineer with Ethyl Corporation from 1952 until retiring in 1980.
He was active in politics with the Republican Party of Louisiana. In 1964, he was a district worker and delegate to the Republican State Convention. He was the Republican candidate for Congress in the Sixth Congressional District in 1966 and for Mayor of Baton Rouge in 1968. He worked as a floor representative for Ronald Reagan's Presidential bid at the Republican National Convention in 1968. In the early 1970s, he helped establish the Libertarian Party of Louisiana, and served as the LP State Chair until 1985. He was also active in Boy Scout Troop 22 and established Sea Explorer Ship 22 in Baton Rouge. He was a member of Trinity Union Lodge No. 372 F&AM, and a member of the SAR, VFW, and American Legion.
Crayton and Ida moved to Fletcher, NC in 1985, where they operated a business at Blue Ridge Mall for several years, and where Crayton was active with the Libertarian Party of North Carolina. A natural story-teller, Crayton wrote a monthly column for the Hendersonville Times-News from November 2001 to 2013.
Crayton is survived by his loving wife, Ida Mae, three children, Larry M. Hall of Baton Rouge, LA; Cecil E. Hall (Peggy) of Bishop, GA, and Constance H. Agnew (Jim) of Rocklin, CA; five grand-children, and eight great-grandchildren.
No services will be held at his request. Interment will be held in Black Mountain at the Western North Carolina State Veteran's Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to CarePartners Hospice 68 Sweeten Creek Rd, Asheville, NC 28803 or to Memory Care Center,100 Far Horizons Lane, Asheville, NC 28803.
