DAVID MORTENSEN Obituary

MORTENSEN, David Soren 75, of Winchester, died peacefully, surrounded by family, on Monday, December 4, following a long illness.

David was deeply devoted to his family. He is survived by his daughter Katherine, her husband Geoffrey, and their son Nathan (of Reading, MA), by his son Eric, his wife Dáša, and their son Søren (of Greensboro, NC), and by his brother Peter and wife Collette (of Hermitage, PA). He was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Karen Mortensen and Barbara Rosnagle, and by his wife of over fifty years, Jean Lynn Bowman Mortensen, with whom he is now reunited in love.

David was born on May 7, 1942, in Greenville, Pennsylvania, son of the late Letitia Brown Mortensen and the late Norman Peter Mortensen. David graduated from Greenville High School ('60), the College of Wooster ('64 B.A. History), and Harvard Law School ('67 JD). He was a classically trained musician and historian. A lawyer by profession, David worked in several law practices in Boston, including Hale & Dorr; Tedeschi, Grasso & Mortensen; Pepe & Hazard, and Rubin & Rudman. His work as a litigator and trial attorney encompassed many different areas including Business Litigation; Antitrust; Personal Injury Law; Insurance; and Health Law. Deeply respected as a leader and consensus builder, David was an active member of both the Town of Winchester's Town Meeting and the First Congregational Church in Winchester. He served as Moderator of the church for decades as well as in many other capacities including singing in the choir. In keeping with his rich intellectual and musical life, David also served on numerous Boards of Directors including that of Revels Inc. and the College of Wooster's Board of Trustees. He will be remembered for sharing generously his wisdom, kindness, wit, and dedication to each community of which he was a part.

Visiting hours will be held at Lane Funeral Home (760 Main St.) in Winchester from 2:00-5:00 pm on Saturday, December 16. I grew up in Greenville, PA, graduated a year behind Dave from high school, and knew him all my adolescent years. He was admired by his teachers and peers for his academic excellence and leadership qualities and musical talent as a fine oboe player. I considered him something of a personal role model. He was clearly destined for a distinguished career in whatever field he chose to pursue. Jim Wehner

To the Mortensen Family:

I just learned of Dave's passing and offer my sincere sympathies. I began my legal career working with Dave and he generously taught me a great deal about the practice of law. More importantly, there wa always a gleam in his eye and a kind word for everyone he met, or so it seemed to me. I remember him fondly.
