I just heard of Gary's death through "You Went to King Philip if" on Facebook, and was very sad to hear of his passing. I never had him as a teacher, but I believe he started his career when I was in 8th grade and it may have been his first year of teaching. God speed. Ruth Bremilst Palumbo

I graduated with Gary from Stoughton High School in 1962. We also taught together at King Philip High School. He was very active coaching and well liked by students. He will be missed. My condolences to the family. Peter Russo

Friend and neighbor for 12 years. Our families grew up together on the same street in Norton.

Always the pragmatic and sensible one, Gary kept me grounded but always in a fun way.

Ellie and I offer our prayers and thoughts for Ruth and family.

To the Lombard Family,
Please accept my deepest condolences on Gary's passing. I had the privilege to play golf with him in the Men's League and enjoyed his company in later months when he would show up to just visit. He will be missed.

Like so many of you, having this person pass through my life was a gift. He had a way of getting the message through. His passing so young is another fine example of something we will never understand. Why does this happen? Mr. Lombard was one of my teachers at KPHS in the 60s-70's. I've always remembered him well as a great educator. Reading comments about him long after I graduated in 1972 only reiterates my thoughts about him then. It is clear the impact he had while on this earth, something we all aspire for, or should! To his family, how lucky are you to have had him in your life. I'm so sad for you today.

I played for Coach Lombard. His knowledge of the game and enthusiasm for the game was unmatched. 35 years later I realize that he taught me much more than just the game of baseball. Thank you Coach Lombard.

December 15, 2016

In our family's years at King Philip we had the pleasure of Gary Lombard being both our teacher, football coach and baseball coach; all of which he excelled at. Teachers and coaches at all levels often fail to appreciate the impact that they have on young peoples lives but that was not the case with Gary. Please know that it was not lost on us either. He would best be described as a compassionate disciplinarian. His students and athletes all benefited from that.

We have many fond memories of our hours with him on the field and in the classroom. To his family, please know that wonderful memories are the footprints where a beautiful soul has been. Our condolences and hope that this consoles you in your loss.

To the Lombard family,
Having the pleasure of first having Mr. Lombard as a teacher, which he was one of the best. Then working with him at the Middle School, there was not a more passionate man, about his family, friends, school and sports. He truly was the quintessential family man, teacher, guidance counselor and coach.

I feel very fortunate to have known him.

In sympathy,
Susan Kolseth DeMarco

Gary was the best coach I never got the honor of having. He was my neighbor and my childhood friend's Dad, whom helped us perfect our street basketball game. He gave me a million rides home from practice and games and always had constructive criticism on harder days. I'll never forget him , his family, his beautiful lawn, or his many pep talks for me and Beth, his daughter, in the Ford Bronco.

A Hard Loss for everyone who knew him, and heartfelt sorrow and condolences to the Lombard Family from Peter Smith and Family. I grew up playing basketball in front of his home in Norton. Best hoop in the neighborhood. He always had a word of friendly advice, and would even come out and shoot with me sometimes after getting home. Wonderful man.

As a long time MBCA board member with Gary, he was such an integral member of our association . His responsibilities were such that he wasn't in the forefront but our board members recognized his leadership and diligence to the task at hand. Massachusetts HS baseball lost a good "one"

Lombard Family,
Thank you for sharing your husband and father for so many years with the King Philip community. His impact and guidance was so profound and immeasurable to countless student athletes. God bless!
