Dougie, Andrea and the entire Mohns family I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I am truly saddened. Your dad was a wonderful man, both your parents were so very kind to me as a kid growing up in Braintree on Angela road. I would help mow your folks lawn and feed the cats and dogs that you had. During this time your Dad would share NHL stories with me and as young hockey player I thought this was the greatest thing. Your folks allowed me to stay at their cape home so I could attend hockey camp. My folks would talk of how gracious and humble your father was and how he wouldn't except any money for me to attend the camp. My folks certainly were not poor but money wasn't abundant at that time and this was a huge help to them. I remember him playing some street hockey with the kids in the neighborhood, WOW did we think that was COOL. The pace of play certainly picked up when Mr. Mohns came out with his sneakers on, we would all talk of how strong he was. Boy was he FUN, he just had a presence. I am certainly glad I reached out to him a few years ago and he quickly responded to my email. When I graduated High school your father gave me a picture of a goalie that the NHL players union had given him, I would often stare at the photo in your home as a kid. Sure enough graduation day he walked that photo across the street and gave it to me, AMAZING. Andrea and Dougie, long before your fathers passing I have thought on numerous occasions that I would like to give this photo back to your family. I/We have enjoyed it long enough (28 years) it should be and is yours. PLEASE CONTACT ME, you should enjoy the photo. Your dad will be missed, I am very fortunate to have know him and spent time with him, he won't be forgotten...Peace Mr. Mohns. Sean Rizzo and the entire Rizzo family.

I was not a hockey fan. In the 1970's I was administrator of NewEngland Rehabilitation Hospital in Woburn ,Mass. My boss and owner of the hospital was Buddy LeRoux who had known Doug very well from his time years earlier as trainor of the Bruins. Doug's playing days were ending and Buddy urged me to hire Doug because he was a good man( I notice from a previous entry from Buddy's wife Adelaide ,the same words described Doug. I did not want to hire Doug,an ex hockey player but out of desperation, we had about 400 employees, and only a part time personnel director, I gave him the job and said no hard feelings after a trial of 30 days doesn't work out. And now the rest of the story:
Within 30 days he produced a terrific employee handbook, renegotiated a far better health, life and disability insurance package for all the employees, and conducted a comprehensive employee attitude survey for management. Little did I know he had friends from several fortune 500 companies who were only to happy to help Doug with the handbook, and he'd for years represented The NHL players in negotiating health, life and disability insurance. And the employee survey was because he cared about the feelings of the workers who made the reputation of the hospital. This 30 days started a 20 year career that Doug had as HR director at NE Rehab Hospital and then it's successor ADvantage Health with over 6,000 employees. He was totally trusted by the employees, stood up for them with quiet but complete determination(not one union in over 20 years!) instituted many remarkable employee recognition events and awards at every location . He was honest, loyal and had a dry sense of humor and worked harder than everyone. And I remember so well when he encouraged Doug Jr to persue a business career because being a professional hockey player wasn't all it was cut out to be. I quess he had it both ways: a great hockey player and a great business career, agreat father and husband and a man I can tell you who was much loved and respected by those in his business career. And for me, I quess I was really lucky I took Buddy's push and hired Doug for that 30 days that turned into more than 20 great, great years. You'll be missed Doug, but I know right now you're conducting a residence survey in heaven, and it will be a better place!

When I was a boy, Doug was my hometown hockey hero. When I grew older I respected him even more as a gentleman who did good works for mankind.

For instance, Doug made my Dad very happy by reaffirming a good deed done
when they were both a lot younger.

My family extend deepest condolences to everyone on Diesel Doug's passing.

Another good man waiting for us on the other side... God has called him home. I remember Diesel Doug from the times he spent with us, his family, at the Black Bay Mohns Reunion. Doug made a good horse-shoe game partner - a natural for sports. Dad (Wally) and Doug are probably shooting 'ringers' as I write this.
Deepest Condolences to all of Doug's family.

My son Jacob did his school speech on Doug a couple of years ago and when he contacted him to get some information, he was so gracious and willing to answer any of his questions and even sent him some pictures from his hockey playing days. When he saw Doug at the next Mohns reunion, I took Jacob's picture with him and it now hangs proudly in Jacob's room. Sending our condolences from Madoc, Ontario.

February 9, 2014

Please accept my most sincere condolences on the loss of Mr. Mohns. I was a youngster attending the All Star Hockey School at the Falmouth Ice Arena when I first met Mr. Mohns. That school experience played a tremendous in my development not only as a hockey player but also as a person. I learned some tricks of the trade which proved to be invaluable later. Mr Mohns as well as Mr McKenney were very instrumental in honing my skills. That short camp was an experience I will never forget.
The memories...
A true gentleman and a gentle man.

Toward that end, RIP "Coach" Mohns and Godspeed. And Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
