Mary Busalacchi Obituary

BUSALACCHI, Mary Rita (Smiddy) Of Saugus, August 15, 2011, age 90, passed away at home surrounded by her family. Beloved wife of the late Andrea (Andrew) G. Busalacchi. Devoted mother of Janet Walters of Port Charlotte, FL, Nancy Comardo of Chula Vista, CA, Susan Campbell of Saugus, Anthony Busalacchi, the late William Busalacchi and David Busalacchi. Mimi to twelve grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Beloved daughter of the late William and Margaret (Corbett) Smiddy of Weymouth. Sister of the late Helen O'Brien, Kathleen McCarthy, William Smiddy, Jr., and Joseph Smiddy. Mrs. Busalacchi graduated from East Boston High School with the class of 1940. She enlisted in the United States Navy in 1944 at the age of 22 and served as a Ship Service Man L First Class. As a Naval Procurement Officer she was stationed in Boston, MA, Washington, DC, Chicago, IL and the Territory of Hawaii. She was Honorably Discharged in 1946. Mrs. Busalacchi was the Past President of the Ladies Auxiliary Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2346 in Saugus, MA. She felt privileged to provide community service for our area. Visiting the nursing homes, annual Vetro Night, summer fishing derby, placing flags on our Veteran graves as well as giving her time to local elementary schools providing flags for each student and addressing them on the importance of honoring our service men and women. Her family always came first, she loved spending time at the beach and she will be missed every day. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Hallmark Health Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice, Inc., 178 Savin St, Suite 300, Malden, MA 02148. Janet, I am sorry to read that you have lost your mother. That is such a sad time in our lives. I see that you now live in Florida, and I hope that your life is interesting and rewarding and that you (and Kenny?) are at peace. I think about you from time to time — sometimes I remember funny things that happened at Jerome Press, and sometimes I recall the bridal shower we had for you at my home in Malden.
