HENRICHS, Albert M. Eliot Professor of Greek at Harvard University Died at home in Cambridge, surrounded by his family, on April 16 after battling pancreatic cancer. He was 74. Born in Cologne, Germany, Professor Henrichs was the son of the late Hans Henrichs and Berta (Justen) Henrichs. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Nolan; his two children from a previous marriage, Markus Henrichs and Helen Henrichs and her husband Alfonso Velasquez; two grandchildren, Magdalena and Julian Velasquez; as well as his former spouse Ursula Henrichs and her partner Joseph Ferraro. Professor Henrichs graduated from the Dreikonigsgymnasium and received his Ph.D and Habilitation from the University of Cologne. After brief teaching stints in Ann Arbor, Cologne, and Berkeley, he came to Harvard University in 1973, where he taught until shortly before his death. He was named Eliot Professor of Greek in 1984, and was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1985 and the American Philosophical Society in 1998. His academic interests ranged widely, from papyrology and textual criticism to ancient religion to Greek poetry and prose, areas in which he made significant contributions to classical scholarship. He was also a beloved teacher who put tremendous energy into his courses and passed on his passion for the Greeks to generations of graduate and undergraduate students.
