Bruce did an article back on April 15, 1974, where I was featured on the front page of the Hartford Courant. I was a little girl at the time, so it's nice to put a face with the name. Very sorry for your loss.

Bruce! Dude. I just got the sad news of your passing, friend.

We were neighbors with Bruce in Oceanside. He nicknamed our little family "The Great Papushnakovs." After moving from there, we still got together with friends from that apartment complex. We often saw Bruce during holidays, and any and all gatherings always involved huge meals. He always brought gifts for our toddler children, even if it was just a tennis ball.

Though he would tell us what he was going through with illness and treatments, he would also share stories about his family, baseball, his love and pride for his daughters (who he spoke of most often than anything else), and his work - past and present.

We lost touch of you in those months before your passing. Rest, friend. Rest in peace. You are missed.

So sad to learn this news over a year after Bruce's death. We met Bruce while Bill was working at the Hartford Courant in 1970. We quickly became friends, which was easy to do with Bruce. Although we weren't always in contact, whenever we caught up again, it was like we had never lost contact.
Bruce always made me laugh, even his corniest jokes. He was very clever, and had a great way with words. I'm both laughing and crying as I write this. He will be truely missed.
Whenever he visited home in MA, we would get together at our home in Derry, NH,and pick up where we left off. When we moved to CA, we frequently got together. Our friendship grew even stronger. When Bruce started getting ill, we spent quite a bit of time with him. It greatly saddens both of us that we started to loose contact with him during his last year. Our fond memories of all our times with Bruce will be with us always. We love you , Bruce!

Bruce was one of my favorite people, dating back to my first real job after College at the Hartford Courant. Mary and I maintained intermittent contact over the 40 years following our respective departures from The Courant. When we moved to California and discovered that he got there first, we reconnected yet again. We saw him through his toughest times surviving chemotherapy. We will miss him.

It's hard to think of Bruce being gone. The memories of our days at The Courant are so vivid, and he was a singular man of exceptional warmth and humor.Toni Martin
