Dear Barbara, Catherine, Nicholas, and Gabrielle,
I learned today about your husband and dad's going on ahead. I am so sorry for our loss, but I give God thanks for the gift of David's life among us. When years ago he wrote wonderful daily reflections on Scripture for Share The Word magazine and we'd chat by phone or email, Medfield to Washington, he would talk about you. I got to know you in his accounts of what you were doing. What a beautiful family you all are, in God's love.
With blessings,

Dear Barbara,
I was saddened to hear of David's sudden death.
I can't imagine how the pain of his passing has devastated you and your children. David was a very caring and sincere Christian who touched many, many lives - including my own - with his dynamic faith and witness.
I pray that God, who is close to the brokenhearted will hold you and your family in the tender and healing embrace of His love.
I thank God for David's life and witness and I pray that God will take him to Himself so that David will now experience the peace and wholeness of God's presence which he so longed for.

You, your children and loved ones are in my thoughts and prayers.

My deepest and sincere sympathy to the family of David Thorp.

As a member of the Archdiocese of Boston Black Catholic Choir, it was an honor for me, and I'm sure all of us, to take part in the celebration of his life at the Mass of Resurrection. Thank you so much for the invitation.

May your happy memories sustain you in your time of sorrow and always.

Dear Barbara & Family. I was very saddened to hear of your loss. Although I have not been a part of your family, I remember many fun times with my coursin David and his brothers in SS Marie. Our paths went in different directions many years ago, but I have kept in touch with Burnie and my Aunt Alice over the years asking about David and his life. I hope you will find much comfort in your friends and family to go forth in your own journey's. I am sure David would want only the very best for your all. Sincerely Charlene Thorp

Dear Barbara My heart mourns with yours. I first met you and David at the Espousal Center. You were both so very warm and kind. I loved listening to david's talks, especially his sharings about Nicklaus . Who was a baby at the time. May the peace of Christ be with you and your family , and may the loving spirit of David remain with you all.

Dear Thorp Family,

David was an amazing man and now I'm sure we have an amazing intercessor in Heaven. I would like to offer up my condolences to your family.

David has brought me into the faith indirectly and has directly helped me continue to grow in the faith. David evangelized my mom in the renewal in the early 90's and has most recently been a guest speaker at several events I went to in the Archdiocese.

David and his love for the faith will be missed.

May the love of God console you, and may his Holy Sprit strengthen you.

In the love of Christ,

January 17, 2011

Dear Barbara, Love and blessings to you and the family at this time of great sorrow. David would know why God intervenes as He does, but I am not as close to the Lord as he was and is.
,I also know he will be interceding for us. We will all miss him.Blessings.

My deepest sympathy to Barbara, Catherine, Nicholas, and Gabrielle.

Your husband and Father was an outstanding man of God.

He is a "great" loss to the Church that He loved and served so well. His Mass of Resurrection attested to this. I know that He rests in the peace of the Lord - may it comfort you to know this.

I served with David on the New England Liaisons' gatherings, and I was always impressed by his enthusiasm and zeal for the Lord.

May God's healing love we with you.

Sincerely,

Sr. Catherine Marie Walsh, RSM

I want to extend my deepest sympathy to David’s family. As you know, he certainly made quite a contribution during his lifetime, and everyone that knew him or knew of him was inspired in a special way. Although I only met David a few weeks ago at a Catholics Come Home meeting, I found him to be a very knowledgeable person, a powerful speaker and listener, and someone with tremendous faith who so desperately wanted everyone not only to hear the message of Catholics Come Home but also to spread the Good News everywhere. He will surely be missed.

We are both shocked and saddened by David's death. Our prayers are with David and all his family.

Dear Barbara and children,

I was saddened to hear of David's passing. He was a gifted man and moved many hearts with his preachings on the Word of God. David was a guest speaker at our Men's Group (TESTAMENT) at St. John the Evangelist in Hopkinton on two occasions. His words were truly inspirational and deeply touched us. He will be fondly remembered. Please be comforted by knowing he is in a better place. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your entire family.

God Bless You,

Dear Barbara and Family,
David spread the Light of Christ wherever he went.I think that David’s whole life was dedicated to “Coming Home” and helping so many of us to recognize that we were all companions on that journey. His sudden death is startlingly ironic in view of his ministry. I’ve been the beneficiary of his love of and passion for Scripture. His eyes danced when he spoke to groups. His energy and joy were contagious. He humbly and enthusiastically embraced the charism given to him by God. Our WINGS group always eagerly anticipated his presentations. Oh, how we will miss him! Our sense of loss is miniscule compared to the enormous loss each of you is enduring. I know that David has been embraced by Jesus and all the saints. He now transcends time and space but I know he is asking God the Father to comfort each of you. He’s telling Jesus to carry you when the loss is just too much. He respectfully implores the Holy Spirit to heal your broken hearts. He’s asked the Blessed Mother to wrap you in her mantle of love and to protect and nurture each of you.

January 14, 2011

Dear Barbara and children,
I was saddened to hear of David's sudden passing. It is difficult to understand God's mysterious ways in taking a man like David home at such a young age. He made so many valuable contributions to the Church beyond being a wonderful husband and father. In particular I remember a beautiful talk he gave at Franciscan University of Steubenville one summer. He used the life of St.Peter and the life of St. Paul to explain the importance of the institutional and charismatic dimensions of the Church. It was the best talk of the conference. David is a man who made a difference in this world for the better and he will be missed.
Yours in Christ,

Barbara and family - David will be greatly missed but, we all know that he is sitting amongst the angels now. I'll never forget his exuberance when teaching the RCA folks at St. Patrick's. It was such a spiritual time for me and all there that I will always treasure.

January 14, 2011

Dear Barbara and Family, you have been blessed with a humble, holy husband and father. David was a faithful servant of the Lord who did his work with gratitude and thanksgiving for the many gifts he received from the Holy Spirit. He was a true witness to the Faith and was truly what it means to be a Holy Christian man in the Lord. We trust that he is in the glorious light of the Lord. May David's light shine on in all the hearts that knew and loved him.
Peace and Blessings, Florence Higgins(Bourne, Ma.)

I first saw David in his office at the diocese years ago when I was there for other business. I was drawn into his office to introduce myself because he had a huge poster. I believe it was on the names of Jesus, but I could be mistaken. In 1990-1991 I was enrolled in the Master Teacher evangelization track in Newton. David was by far the best teacher I have ever had and certainly ever remembered. My particular ministry today is to former Catholics wherever I meet them, often at the beach. I give them a bible verse on a watercolor with my contact information. Because of David I am on fire and my fire will be even greater now. He will surely be sorely missed by so many. I am proud to say I have known him, not just of him. He put his all into whatever he did. God bless all of you and hold you in the palm of His hand.

January 14, 2011

Dear Barbara and family: Our deepest sympathy to you all at this sad time of the loss of David. Al and I were in David's scripture study classes in Holliston and benefited very much from his insight into God's word. He will be sorely missed in the community of faith. What a colossal loss!! A great, great man of God who touched so many lives. It was always such a blessing to be in David's presence. His piercing eyes radiated such love!! He was a great teacher. I heard him speak at many conferences and workshops. David was a great gift to the Church. He will continue to love his family and all of us as he rejoices with our Lord in heaven. Dear Barbara,

You probably already know this, but it bears repeating: "we've already won." It's what you said to me when I was totally down and thought the world was not worth it. To say that this is a tough time for you and your family is an understatement, I know, but try, when you can, to remember: "we've already won."

Much love,

Kelly

Barbara, Catherine, Nicholas, Gabrielle and Family,
Our hearts ache for your loss and although our minds are slow to comprehend, we know that David’s light still shines brightly in our lives. Our friendship was eternally sealed in the Body of Christ (Corpus Christi Parish). As extended family there is not one request that if asked we would not faithfully seek to fulfill. All of us live in God’s love yet David had a fuller understanding of how to respond to that Love. May you be comforted by the legion that David inspired, renewed, prayed with and taught. He always answered God’s call and went wherever the need may have been. He was Christ’s ambassador. We kneel with you in prayer, friendship and love that the Great Comforter will heal your pain and you will know the same Peace that David now enjoys with Christ.

January 13, 2011

To Barbara and family, sincere thoughts and prayers for you all. I was blessed to have studied with David years ago in the evangelization program. The lessons learned from this gifted man have served me well. God bless you all.
